Tiny arcade machine - DIY video

I wounder how much money you could make selling those on eBay... Technically it's not illegal since he used one of those joystick game system that just plug and play. Now the copyright on the art work is another story but you could probably design your own art work.

Yeah, I thought that he was at least going to wire up some real buttons/a real stick...

That mini Neo-Geo is wicked cool.

I have that plug and play unit. Pole Position sucks when you have to turn a joystick. Otherwise, great fun.

i think the one in the video sucks, to be honest.

The screen is blocked by the ugly controller box. He should have done what everyone else does and removed the controls from the box and either replaced them with real ones or attached them to a regular control panel.

Here are some "real" miniature arcade machines. The guy made them using real PCB's and buttons. Quite a bit better than a child's toy stuffed in an oversized wooden box. The Pac doesn't even have t-molding. :(

That Neo Geo is pretty awesome. Yeah, the plug-n-play Namco one would be easier for the average joe to build, but scores much lower geek cred. I don't think I could play it with the buttons on the left like that either. I wonder if a 48-in-1 would fit in one of these little cabs.

I like the Plug-n-Play that he chose. That's probably the best selection I've ever seen on one, especially for $25 from amazon.com

I can't see why you couldn't fit a 48 in 1. I think those boards are only about 5x7". If you were going for authenticity, I think the toughest part I think would be fitting a functional coin mech in there. If you did a 48 or 60 in 1 board and power supply, did proper cooling on it, you might end up short on room for the mech and coin box.

Does anyone make a really compact coin system? Maybe a Nintendo style mech would do.

This project is really intriuging though. If I can find a coin system that is relatively compact, and I might have to try one.

I think I've got some weird little coin slots/mechs out in my shop. Not sure where they came from.......

I think I might try this, I got a really cool plug n play today that would be perfect. Only thing I'm stuck on is how to power both a DVD screen and game board....
