Hi All,

Does anyone know of a source for a dark tinted sheet that covers the scoreboard cut out on a Dragon's Lair/Space Ace cabinet? The one I have is split and mostly disintegrated. The plexi backing then goes on over top of this

Thanks,

Evan

I think OP is asking for the dark red(?) filter sheet that covers the score displays.

To the OP....if it's a plastic film, try your local camera/photo shop. Or a theater (stage) supplies shop. I've had good luck with buying "gel" material there. (Lee filters, Pantone, etc.) Take the old one with you and ask them to match it.

* I don't have a DL, so I'm not sure if that's hard plastic filter or a film sheet.

Will give them a try. Thanks!

Can someone post a pic of what we're talking about here?

My scoreboard just fits into the plexi plate. I don't have any other gel in between. (And I'm pretty sure the other DL cab I owned was the same way.)

This is all I have left. Someone previous has cut the Center out for some unknown reason. When I got my DL cab it had been converted to a Rygar but left mostly intact. They did paint over the scoreboard plexi though. The scoreboard screws into the back of the opening and then the film is applied to the front and then covered over with the scoreboard/speaker plexi. I assume the reason behind the tinted film was to cut down on the score display to the human eye as you were positioned about 18" or so away from it. Similar pinball displays are about 48" away. I have a friend who is also starting his restore shortly and his was and still is a dedicated cab with no work done it so I am going to ask him to pop his plexi off and see if his has it. The pice measures at 6.25" by 8.5". The first pick shows the side facing the player that I peeled it from and then touched up the wood. The second pic shows the backside with some of the wood still attached (Center has been cut out, hence the want to replace), third pic is the front. 4th pic Looks like a smoked grey. About as dark as the monitor Plexi.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I don't know if I have that on mine, as my windows for the score digits look pretty clear. I'd have to get in there for a better look.

But anyway yeah, you can get that stuff on ebay. Just search for Roscolux, 'Lee filter sheet', or 'gel filter', and the color. You'll likely find multiple shades, but they're pretty cheap, so I just order a few different ones. I went through this when replacing the gel on my Asteroids Deluxe, and found several options.

Thanks! Will give a look around as well as local camera shops

Ok...that's what I thought we were talking about. The purpose of that filter is to hide everything except the actual display elements. You just want the 7 segment light showing. Not the 7-segment bricks or bezels or the PCB or the space around it etc. Same function as smoked plexi over a CRT.

i used the smoked sheet from this on amazon, works great, was almost an exact match for the tint.

Yep I got that film / gel on my DL too

I was lucky that my original score plexi was in "keeper" condition, not scratched up as most got
So if the flexible film / gel ever got removed there's nothing to suggest it should be there
