OK fellas- I hope you can help me out here. I received a Monroe joystick from another member to replace a horrible Happ universal joystick that was stuck on my Time Pilot. The Happ stick was beat up really bad and it wouldn't move your ship left onscreen. I didn't think anything of it with the condition the stick and microswitches were in. So I was excited to swap out the crappy stick with the Monroe stick. I hooked it up and the same thing is happening- it will not move your ship left onscreen. I checked from the stick all the way to the board and I have continuity every step of the way. What am I missing here?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!

If you swap the left and right wires on the joystick, will moving left make your ship move right? If so, that will show your joystick is working okay. If not, does moving the joystick right make the ship move left? if so, then your joystick has a problem on the leaf for the left movement.

Otherwise, if you have continuity all the way to the pin/pad on the board, then you should inspect the board starting with that trace, and following it into the board, looking for damage, or checking the parts there....

Well, unfortunately no matter where I hook up the left- it doesn't work. I did hook up another direction to the left leaf switch and it worked. I suppose my problem is the board. I'll have to pull it out and inspect it... :(

There are some resistor packs or custom SIPs on that board that buffer the inputs. One is probably bad.

If you have a meter, resistor packs are easy to check. You just have to find the right one (follow the trace from the pad), know what it should be measuring at (ohms) and check it to see if it does measure properly.....

Thanks Mod, I'll give it a shot later this week...
