The short of it:
Im making a Dual Screen, dual light gun, dual pedal cabinet.

What I have:
2 Official namco arcade lightguns (the kind that kick with solenoids)
2 Playstation GunCon2 USB guns
2 Official Time Crisis 2 Pedal Chassis
2 27" CRT Screens
2 Playstation 2 Game consoles
1 PC with MAME

The Concept:
1. Gut the actual time crisis arcade guns, replacing the guts with GunCon2 gun guts. Basically having a GunCon2 inside the old arcade gun shell. This will allow the guns to work on playstation 2, and I have even found drivers for mame! (sweet)

2. Tap into the PCB for the GunCon2 where the "reload/duck" button is, and run the wire to the switch inside the pedal assy. This will basically be a button under your foot. Stepping on the pedal would be the same then as normally pressing the button on the guncon to duck. Works like a charm.

3. Wire an external 24vdc power supply to the solenoid so that when the gun is activated, the solenoids will kick. The power when attached momentarily to the solenoid will cause it to kick.. but getting this to be a standard function of the gun is some trouble.

The Problem:
Step 3 is beyond me. I would like to know how to do this. I was thinking of using a transistor and perhaps using an output from the pcb to the gate side of the transistor, and then using the 24vdc to the flow so that when the small voltage came into the transistor from the pcb, it would allow for the solenoid to be fired. For some reason, this doesnt work.. I must admit, im not a complete noob, but I dont know a lot about specific electronics components. If anyone has an idea of how I can do this, please help me out.

Keep in mind... when the "machine gun" is used in the game, the trigger is usually held down by the player... This causes a problem with wiring the solenoid directly to a DPDT switch/trigger, because the solenoid then would be charged for the duration of the trigger pull... My thoughts are that this would overheat the solenoid.

I feel like Im almost there with my mock up, and playstation 2 has made it easy to run dual screens, and im even hopeful that mame will allow me to use the usb on the guncons for other games too...

Its just this solenoid kicking problem that is causing me trouble.

Thanks in advance!
