I just acquired a TC3 twin with 27" monitors.
player one (left machine) is working fine.

Player two won't let me get into test mode, or even add credits. Just keeps showing the attract mode.

When I go into the menu with player one, it says "LINK MALFUNCTION 2".
I swapped the coin towers, and the problem was still the same on player number 2.

So, I'm assuming their is something wrong with the main System 246 in the player 2 cab?
Any suggestions, things to check?

Also, when I power the machines on, they both make a horrible noise from the speakers, followed by several "dings". Is this loud noise normal? it seems like it would bust the speakers!

Thanks ahead of time guys..

The noise at boot is normal...annoying, but normal.

As to troubleshooting the main board issues: try swapping the two main boards. If the problem follows the main board, then try swapping the DVDs and security keys (look like a Playstation 2 Memory Card). Trace it down to an individual piece of the machine.

It does sound like a main board malfunction is possible, but it also sounds like it could be a wiring issue. Or an issue with one of the two power supplies on one side.

Also, the I/O board could be at fault. Have seen this happen before when the I/O board goes bad, so they can be swapped to check.

Unless it's a wiring issue, I'm leaning towards this as well. Have you tried just swapping I/O boards?

Check to make sure you didn't forget to plug in one of the harnesses when you attached the gun stand. All of the inputs not working are on the same plug. I left that plug loose when I first hooked mine up.

Found the problem. It was at the connector that plus into the I/O board on the gun towers.. apparently the wires had been pulled too thin, and the black and white wires had internally pulled apart. Problem solved.
Now, just waiting for a reply from Nieman concerning the need for a cap kit on the 3m27 monitors... :)
