Ticking noise coming from Wells Gardner k7200 monitor

Bought a Pole Position with a WG k7200 monitor in it. It makes a constant ticking noise when powered on. The neck tube doesn't glow. The monitor chassis look very clean, don't visually see any issues. Any ideas where i should start? I know a cap kit might solve all sorts of problems, but i hate to do all that work if there is another culprit. I have included some pics if that would help. Thank you for any suggestions.

Was that the one in Lincoln?

I believe there is a .01uf at c320 or .47uf at c617 you can change out with a 1uf. That can sometimes short cut you to getting it up in running.

Yup that's the one. Thought I'd take a chance on it. Lady said she had someone take a look at it and thought it wouldn't take much to get it up and running. It may have more issues as well. Just figured i had to get the monitor up and running first.

the ticking is probably the monitor trying to start and shutting down over and over. i personally never pull a monitor without replacing caps when they are original like yours. caps on the 7200 go a long ways and while its out test the diodes in the power supply section and also those 7200's have those large radial resistors that almost want to fall out of the pcb from cold solder joints so reflow all higher wattage resistors on the pcb along with all header pins. thats where i would start.

Thank you. I will definitely reflow all the resistors and header pins as a first step. I think you are right about the starting and shutting down cycle. What causes that? Is it a safety precaution with the monitor when it starts doing that?

when you pull the chassis check the HOT. they tick when shorted, also replace those caps but take care these chassis can pull and break traces very easy.

i would do a cap kit and a good re-flow first.

bad caps on those chassis cause all kinds of problems including it shutting down.

if you need it fixed, your welcome to send it in.

Peace

Whats the voltages on the test points. test point 1 is the b+

If no voltages then do you have a any shorts on the same test points?

That's where I start when they are so obvious what they should be..

next to the connectors.

sure you might need caps but check for shorts so you can get all the parts

you might need, look other threads for parts found bad and check on your chassis.

Good Luck!

We can't test it, you need to.
If you say I check the test points
And none were low ohms to ground
That eliminate a obvious short.
On voltage supply

The thing is with more then one
Secondary voltage coming from
The PS
And both high current
Either one can try and hold down the voltage
And the symptoms are ticking
Because the PS out of phase with
The load.
Another is just low capacitance
Just need to replace the caps.

Otherwise if no secondary voltages
And no shorts then suspect Q001 and the zener
Here's some tps to check luk

Solved mine. I got a spark when removing from frame. I shorted a capacitor and replaced it. I just guessed with capacitor it was and tested it out of circuit. Problem solved. Was c519.
