Three New Project Cabs - Mr. Domino, Pac-Man CT & Turtles

I just picked up the following three cabs for a steal ($25 each).

Domino Man
Turtle
Pac-Man Cocktail (equipped with a fast-modded Ms. PaciMan board)

I am going to get to work restoring these and I need some advice on a few things, particularly how to treat the interior of the cabs to rectify all the mouse piss and other crap that was inside them. (You can read the full story of the run and get more pics of each cab via my blog at http://www.2old2play.com/Blog/Waterborn ). The turtles cab runs great, the monitor just needs a cap kit. The other two have power cords that were chewed up by mice (I even found walnuts inside the Pac CT) and the insides are filthy, so I am much less inclined to just plug them in and hope for the best. Plus the monitor in the Domino Man is FUBAR and needs to be replaced (I have several working, recapped and ready to go). My main concern is getting the insides checked and cleaned first. Anyone else work with similar issues? Any ideas on where to start with the defumigation process?

You need to apply a neutralizing agent to the piss, use a vinegar-water wash using 2 cups white distilled vinegar to 1 gallon of water. The vinegar neutralizes the urine removing the smells, and the strong vinegar smell will dissipate in a few hours. Follow-up with a baking soda application, then vaccum well.

If you're working with particle board that will swell or absorb liquid, then you may just have to replace it.

M1A, I will take some more pictures once I have cleaned it up a bit. Need to start working on this cab, but am kind of waiting on warm weather so I can do most of the cleanup and internal sanding outside.

Wunder, thanks for the suggestion . I think that will be my first step and then maybe a complete sanding of the inside of the cab if Plan A doesn't work.

I will post updates on this as I progress.

Wunder, I just tried your suggestion on my Turtles cab, which was considerably less nasty, and it seemed to work pretty well. The most difficult thing is controlling the backspray of the vinegar mix as I scrubbed the cab walls. There was caked on mouse crap on several of the surfaces, so I used a scrub brush to get at those areas. I removed all the boards and cleaned those up with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol, which seemed to work best. Getting ready to put in a recapped monitor, then will try to fire everything up a little later once I am certain it is 100% dry inside.

i dont like the game but please dont fuck up the domino cab the art is so kickass

Wouldn't dream of it. I would love to find an new cover for the bottom front of the cab (around the coin-door). Someone had put a security bar on it and screwed right into the dominoes on the front. I took off the bar today and it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would, but the holes are still there.

Please do. I have a real nice Domino Man and I'm interested in seeing other pics of DM games to compare mine too - see if there are any variants.

The piece is molded plastic. Worse case I can use some epoxy to repair the holes and then paint over it.

Though my cab has complete artwork, I am pretty sure it is a conversion as I can see hints of other artwork underneath the DM stuff.

It looks like the same size & shape of the Bally/Midway "6-pack" conversion cab my Bull Fight was in...

I've read that since Lazarian was a huge flop for Midway, they converted many of those cabs right at the factory.

I'd check the "back wall" of the cabinet (the black wooden panel that the top of the monitor bezel rests against) for traces of old artwork on it. Lazarian had an outer space scene here.

My DM has a scratch in the art and, yup, under it I can see other art. Someplace on line I read the same about conversion at the factory from Lazarian mentioned above.

After looking at the flyer, I am pretty certain that is the artwork hiding under my DM bezel. Thanks for digging that up. Pretty cool to learn more of this history of this game, which I was completely unaware of until I found this cab in that trailer. Discoveries like this are why I really love this hobby. You never know what you will come across in the next warehouse, barn or storage unit.

I went to Funspot today and checked out their DM and it seems to have similar artwork around the video screen. I played on game and was like "meh". Definitely not the best gameplay out there, but certainly a cool cab.

I also played Crossbow for the first time in ages at FS today. I had forgotten all about that game. Still love it.

Its definitely not the greatest game. I paid a premium for mine, and for me, it was nostalgic factor. This game was at a few pizza parlors and/or arcades where I grew up and I played it back then. It was one of the first games I played as a kid.

Bonus is that it is considered by many to be a "collector" game, as it isn't that common and one in decent shape is even rarer.

I've had a very, very nice (and legitimate) offer for mine, and I passed. Not that this is all that important, but nice to know when you pay a premium for a game, someone who is well known as a serious collector presents you a very attractive offer. Makes paying that premium a little easier to justify.

Yeah, I have had a few folks send me notes of interest. For the time being, I am going to work on restoring it, then we can see what comes of it. If you don't mind, can you give me a ballpark on what you paid for yours? No worries if you don't want to say.

Went down to my basement today to take a few pics of the Domino cab for a fellow NEACF member who is interested in buying it.

After a little scrubbing and closer inspection, the game looks better than I had originally thought. The monitor needs a new neck board and cap kit, but has zero burn-in.

One of my friends pulled what I think is a battery off of the gameboard PS, which will need to be replaced. This board is pretty dirty, but looks in tact. The main PCB looks very clean. If my friend decides not to buy this, I think I will clean it up and rebuild the ps and monitor and see how it looks then. I am starting to dig the idea of bringing this thing back, though I will probably still eventually sell it down the road. Just don't see if earning a permanent place in my collection due to lack of space. Stay tuned for updates.

I've got a Domino Man that I've been working on for a while. It was converted and the hardest thing to find has been that front plastic piece with the dominoes. Luckily I know someone local that should have one. Good luck with yours!

The longer I had a Domino Man the more I appreciated the gameplay. It had a scratch in the side art showing a hint of green underneath (Lazarian factory conversion).
