Finally got around to playing this game and fell in love with it! I found a converted Sega/Gremlin cab locally and was thinking about a from scratch build.

Problems:
1. I will need ALL the parts. Are they hard to come by? I've seen random marquees and CPs, but how hard is it to find working boardsets?

2. Vector monitor. As we all know these are hard to find, and if you do you'll pay out the ass for it....assuming the seller will ship the damn thing.

What do you guys think? Any love for this game? Am I crazy for wanting to do this?

Thanks,

Jason

You can probably buy one and have it shipped cheaper than you can piece one together.

Very good game. I would never sell mine.

Cheaper and probably safer for the monitor to buy a complete game and ship it. You would probably spend $600-$800 on the parts. As with most vector games, the hunk of wood is probably the most worthless part of it.

True, especially for those rat ugly Sega/Gremlin convert-a-cab cabinets. Those ugly brown no art work boxy cabinets are just the pits. Even when brand new in the arcade days they were fuggly to look at.

So, which looks better..the satin brown painted type or the woodgrain vinyl?

I know if building a 'replacement' cabinet, I'd definitely go satin brown, as you make it look exact and all. I think I've seen Zaxxon, for example, both ways.

Wow, talk about a classic "lesser of two evils" situation. I guess I'd prefer the woodgrain vinyl. I'd give the satin brown an "F-" while the woodgrain, I'd give a higher grade of an "F".

Did tac/scan not have its own side art?
hmm thats weird seeing as zaxxon does and tac/scan is wayyyy better imo.

Yeah, but the average person with a clue about 80s games has probably heard of Zaxxon. I had a disk for the C64 with ports of about a dozen arcade games. These were pretty good ports, of Zaxxon, Dig Dug, Popeye, Congo Bongo, Buck Rogers, Pac Man..can't remember what else. Zaxxon was pretty big in the day, just doesn't get a lot of love from collectors.

I never noticed. Next time I am digging all the way to the back of my storage unit, I'll have to take a look.

Or better yet, pull it out of storage and fix it up for your next arcade game party so I can play it. :)

What's a good score to work for? Don't have a lot of practice on it but reached 120,000 (On a ps2 port mind you) and thought it was decent. The fourth level starts getting FAST!

I have never seen Tac/Scan, Space Fury, Eliminator or Zektor side art. If it exists or if anything ever turned up from the factory like films or prototype art I would really really want to get some art for my games.

I am in the process of building a tac/scan. Got the boardset, cp, & marquee.
Still looking for a bezel and a convert a game cab.

I never played it back in the day but it looks like a game I would like from the videos on youtube.

YOu do know that Vector labs made a kit so that you can play all the Sega Vectors? Yes, I know the sound board has still not been reproduced, but if you can score the individual sound boards, you can have all the games in one cabinet.
