Does anyone own this or have owned this pin have any thoughts on it. Is the gameplay good on it. Ive never played it but have a chance to get one that has been shopped out. Guy is looking for a trade with me for something. it would also be my first pin.

Galaxy is part of the not-so-prestigious club of SS pins that are basically EM pins with sound.

The playfield and rule sets really aren't anything new or exciting. The sounds are awful too. I don't know what stern used for audio on that thing, but it's no better than Atari's sound boards.

In all cases, I suggest you go and play a game yourself before making a buying decision, but I'm of the opinion that Galaxy is a pretty boring pin.

I have had one for a while now,and i actually enjoy it.There is not alot going on on the playfield though.3 pop bumpers,3 drop targets and you're main objective is just to spell galaxy by going through different lanes. The sound effects couldn't be more old school, but i think that is part of what i like about it.
I will play my other pins most of the time, this one gets powered up to make sure it still works.Once i start playing i'm stuck there for about an hour,i really enjoy playing it when i'm playing it,but when i'm not playing it it doesn't cross my mind.I just watched one close on ebay in the last few weeks for a little better than $400.00.
Yea you should play a few games to decide.I keep wanting to sell it to finance other projects, but like it enough that i can't let it go (yet) lol.

I had one come into my garage a few years back, and it's a so-so pin. It is a early SS and the ruleset is pretty basic. It certainly would not be my first pick to have as a machine, but if you are looking for a basic, cheap, first pinball, it might be worth considering.

I owned one briefly (odds are excellent it's the one you're considering - I sold mine to somebody in Round Rock a few months back).

I shopped it out, played it for a few weeks, but needed to make some space so I sold it. I'd remembered it as a fun game that was pretty easy to play when I was younger, and that had really good sound effects for the time.

I disagree with the opinion that it's like an EM game with Atari sounds - the sounds are much better than anything Atari ever did, and properly tuned it's a fun/fast game. The sound effects are much like other Stern games from the time, such as Meteor.

I got bored with it quickly, as it was too easy for me. One of the reasons I probably enjoyed playing it at a 7-11 back in the day, as it was easy to win free games on...

Properly maintained, it's a fun/fast pin, and if you're considering it for your first pinball, you could do a lot worse than an early Stern game such as Galaxy. When it starts to get too easy, set it on 3-ball play instead of 5-ball, and crank up the feet on the rear legs to increase the playfield incline - that'll make things more interesting!

As suggested - play it a few times first, and see if you like it.
