Thoughts on NIB Pins?

Damn, Rare....Looking at your sig; you got your own pinball museum! ;)

It's a crazy addiction ...for years of my arcade collecting I didn't really care about pinball. I just had one machine - BTTF ...and then a couple years ago I just got THE BUG and sold a lot of my arcades to make room for pins. Once I "got" pinball...the rules, tricks, strategy....it was all over!

Im really worried this is going to happen to me, too. Once I find that first one, its all over lol.

Yea me too... I think my next purchase will be a pin... I have been in this hobby for so long and never had a pin because of space. I am moving next month and will have plenty of room now. Still have to wait till things pic up at work before making a big purchase like that though..

I bought my first pin in June. Second in July. It's been EXTREMELY hard to NOT buy one this month, and the opportunities are there! :p

I'm trying to hold off by telling myself I'm saving up for an ST:TNG. :D

I'm actually searching out pins in the wild and keeping quarters in my pockets, something I haven't done in YEARS. There's a TAF in a Round Table near my work. I endure the crappy salad bar for lunch just to play.

They need one in the Pho place - then I'd be set.

For me, the pinball purchases are much more satisfying....as I'm really PLAYING them. I love the arcades for the nostalgia -but I'm as good at Pac-Man as I was when I was 6 years old. I'm just not gonna get any better...I mostly play for nostalgia. With pinball - I feel like I'm REALLY PLAYING ...especially the deeper games like TSPP or LOTR where you're constantly discovering new things or new avenues to advance. I've had Family Guy for 2 years and STILL haven't reached Sperm Attack wizard mode! ...although once I was like ONE shot away, though! :) So- even though pins are more expensive, I feel like I'm getting my money's worth as I play them a lot.

No prob, I've posted about it before ...I bought it from Gates McFadden, the actress that played Dr. Crusher on STTNG. All the actors that participated in the pinball got a game. She just threw it in storage and forgot about it.

That is a neat story. Thanks.

I would say if your thinking about getting a pin and can afford it just do it, not necessarily NIB, but find one you like. As RareHero said once you get the rules and such, it makes pinball so much more fun. I used to just bat the ball around but once I started learning what to shoot for and when to do it, it brings the game play to a whole new level.

Personally as far as NIB pins these days, there is only one Stern that I currently still want to purchase and I don't think you'll find it NIB anymore and if you do it will cost a bit, so Ill settle for HUO or a nice routed one that can be cleaned up.

There was some dude on ebay about 6 months ago selling 1 of 2 NIB Addams Family Gold Pins and he had a buy it now price of $120,000 ! ! ! ! !

He would fly buyer out, pay for a limo back plus a van to follow them with their pin e.t.c.

But DAMN! Whoever had that scratch would/should never even open it themselves so what the hell, lol

You should only buy a NIB pin if you plan to keep it. From what I've seen most people like to trade them for something else after the newness wears off(They lose their value like a new car). I have 10 pins and after buying a new indiana jones last year, I can say there is a difference in playing a new versus refurbished machine. However, I would only buy one new one in a collection as for 4 or 5 grand you can buy several others. It's basically a matter of preference

I would only buy NIB on a brand new game that I really wanted. If it's been out a year or two there will be very nice ones to be bought for less than a NIB. This said if they make a tron pin I will buy it NIB when it comes out but it will be a keeper.

About 5-6 months ago the only pins I owned were Jurassic Park and The Simpsons. Well, check out my sig now...it's a disease, I tell ya!

I just wanted to say that I got the quote :)

...and that I'll never afford a NIB pin but have gotten the 'bug' and am now pretty much only focused on all things pinball, forgetting about my vids..

I've got a friend that bought a LOTR NIB.

I love playing it.
It is soooo choice.
If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Does Costco do Layway on stuff for the store/online?

I always tell people when they come into our golf store concerning lay away.

buy a gift certificate, that's kind of like lay away. You cannot spend it elsewhere at that point.

Except they are not on costco's website anymore.... so you might end up with a pile of certificates to spend there :p

Oh man, what did I do!!! ;0)
