Does anyone here approve or dislike mylar on the playfield. i was enquiring to get some for my Bride of Pinbot. does it effect game play or ruin the playfield once removed? any advice appreciated. also, does anyone know were i can pick up a mylar kit for Bride of Pinbot?

cheers, Dave

There are still good places for mylar, even at home. Anywhere you have a ball drop, it's a good idea to have a spot of mylar. In Bride of Pinbot the two inlanes have ball drop spots from ramps and it's not a bad idea to put a small square of mylar on those spots, especially if your machine doesn't have a diamond plate coating (kinda rare for that title to have it).

Also, the mylar rings around pop bumpers and the half moon mylar stickers aren't a bad idea if the game has a real hot pop action, which BoP definitely does.

Mylar has its place at times in pre-DP games, but I would use it sparingly all the same.

For the limited amount of play it is going to get, I wouldn't mylar the playfield. Just be sure the balls are new, (i.e. completely smooth) and that the shooter has a good bumper on the end so the ball doesn't get damaged. Playing with a damaged ball is like slowly sanding the playfield.

I would touch up any paint damage on the playfield if there is any, then keep it waxed well.

If you mylar it, eventually the mylar will wear, and then what do you do?

Just my 2 cents worth, and what do I know..... ;-) I need to be sure you take good care of it so in case you ever decide to sell it, I can buy it and move it next to PINBOT!

Mylar sucks. I would never put mylar on a game. It will never again see the route abuse that mylar protected against.

If the playfield looks good, keep it cleaned and waxed and don't bother. However, new mylar isn't horrible in some situations. When I shopped my Funhouse, the mylar was shit...bubbled, lifted (by lifted inserts), dull. I froze it off. There was actually some playfield wear under the mylar (an op must have put it on after the fact). I touched up the wear, and also a lot of the insert borders since I had to pull out and re-set many inserts. I don't have the patience or expertise (yet) to completely take out a playfield and clearcoat it...and I knew my paint wouldn't last unprotected....so - I used the old mylar as a template, cut a new one, remylared. New mylar looks AWESOME...almost like clearcoat. Super shiny, and plays great.

So - I wouldn't put mylar on in every circumstance...but if you have to do a lot of touchup and don't want to clearcoat, new mylar on a home game looks pretty good.

I thought i saw a youtube video of a guy selling some type of mylar that could be pulled up with no special technique. kinda like a reuseable clear sticker. Anyone have any thoughts on that material? prolly costs a premium.

I am going to put some mylar around my pop bumpers on my MGOW after i touch up the paint.

It's going to take a very long time for mylar to wear. And if you're only using small patches, it's pretty easy to replace as needed. Replacing mylar is much easier than touching up and clearing over touched areas.
