Would you rehome a dedicated Galaga in a Ms Pac cabinet that had previously been converted?

I have a 100% working Galaga that is in a severely water damaged cabinet with no hope of saving and just acquired a Ms Pac Cabinet that was previously converted to Capcom Bowling. There is nothing Ms Pac oriented salvageable from this cabinet but the cabinet itself. No art work, the control panel was cut for the track ball, etc. In other words destroyed. The bright side is once I stripped the crappy paint job on it, the cabinet is beautiful. Either way it has to be painted, I am thinking this would be a great donor case to my Galaga.

Are there any opposing factors to doing this? If there are please let me know. I am new to restoring arcades and don't want to devalue or diminish something that may be better off doing something else with.

Thanks!

Go for it. The coindoor is either higher or lower on a Ms. Pac, so the the only issue would be that the kick plate art will need a bit of adjustment.

Do it. Sounds like a good idea. Galaga cabs suck.

Thanks for that tid bit. I may not have noticed until it was too late. I will definitely check against my existing cabinet. I plan on counter sinking the four carriage bolts that mount the coin bucket and filling them so the front is smooth, if there is much of a difference in height I may just take the time and adjust the height to the appropriate level. Granted it will never be a perfect cab, I wouldn't mind making it as close as possible.

My Galaga (running a 60-in-1) was once a converted Ms. Pac. It had been painted blue and was running Raiden 2. My board died and I had always wanted to do a Galaga project in that cabinet, so that is exactly what I did. My control panel is not spot on due to the extra button and a 4 way joystick but other than that it looks great and very Galaga like.

As stated above, Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man cabinets are not identical but they are close enough. I had little trouble transplanting parts. My marquee and bezel are reproduction and they are beautiful.

Ms. Pac cabinets are much better built. Go for it. You will have a nice game in a nice solid cabinet.

Sweet. I have all new art work and CPO since I was going to scratch build a cabinet using the existing one for a template, but I am not going to lie I have so many irons in the fire I get lazy from time to time. I thought overpaid a touch for this cabinet out of the gate, but once I got it stripped I ended up with a great deal in my opinion. Will post a few pictures when it is done. As of now both sides are bare wood goign to start the front panel today and make any height adjustments for the coin door (if needed) and hide the coin bucket holder bolts.

I do like the idea of the more solid plywood cab as opposed to the MDF. Plus it seems like it is a little lighter too. Not 100% sure on that one, it could be the fact I can actually move and roll this cab without it falling apart, lol.

The plywood cabinets are waaaay lighter and so much easier to move around.

The coin door height is different. The bottom edge of the Ms Pacman coin door cutout is located 18 inches from the bottom of the case. Without removing the coin door from Galaga it measures around 19 from the bottom, I will make a better measurement when it is time to move the hole. This won't be hard to adjust to make it the correct height.

Anyone interested in a tutorial when I do it?

I didn't let the bolts or the coin door height bother me. l think I had to cut a little off the bottom of the front graphic. I am happy with it.
