This one is local should I buy?

I'd go for it just to get the barstools, if nothing else. Also, if you ever got flooded out of your home, that CP'd make an awesome, highly visible flotation device for the rescue crews to find you. Probably fit the whole family AND the dog on that thing...

Yeah, there is so much more room there , we can play army men and do lots of other activities....

Figure I could use the control panel to go surfing if I get bored.

I saw that one too. Needs more buttons for my taste. I do love the buttons and controls at the very top of the HUGE control panel. Nothing like playing a game 3 inches from the monitor. I just don't understand for the life of me how someone looks and that and says "great job, well done, I am proud to own this."

I too have thought of buiding a 4 player set up, but just seeing how big and bulky these things look, it just makes me wonder, do i really need to have a 4 player one, the only game that I have played in the past, with the wife and kids, was the Simpsons, and I just dont ever see that happening that often to justify it ....

You guys are killing me, only putting up a CL link...

Here it is, for future viewers that would have no idea of the glory...
(OooooOOoooooh! He used 1/2" MDF? )

4 Player Arcade MAME Machine - $1500 (Monticello)

I built this MAME cabinet from plans from mameroom.com. It is built from 1/2" MDF (particle) board. The dimensions are 74" High x 47" deep x 23" Wide (cabinet) - 48" Wide (control Panel). The top of the control panel is laminate and made to take a beating (still in excellent condition). The sides of the cabinet are contact paper. It is a bit wrinkly and should eventually be re-done. I've got plenty of extra contact paper to re-do it a few times as I had to order a case to get the design I wanted. There is a locking drawer in the front that holds the keyboard and mouse. There is a Mame Marquee on the front-top with a light behind it. There are speakers that rest on top of the cabinet that have a build in amp. The sound quality is pretty good. All supported MAME games play extremely well. There is no game play differences from the original arcade game. The two bar stools are included. It cost me close to $2,500.00 to build this (with about 1/3 of that in the control panel alone).

I really enjoy this MAME game. We have had a lot of fun with it. I built it when I was single and had people over quite a bit to play. Now I am married and have two kids. I would love to keep it for when they get older, but just do not have the space right now

It's got a 21" CRT Monitor, 4 player control panel (with 8 way & 4 way HAPP controls joysticks, buttons, controls for Karate Champ, and a trackball, Mame as well as daphnie (Dragon's Laire, etc.).

It's powered by a HP Pentium 4 - 2.8 GHz Processor, 1GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Win XP Pro, ATI Radeon 9200 video card, Creative Soundblaster sound card. I'm using Mala as the front end currently (but I've used many).

All MAME ROMS & Daphnie Images included (over 5,000)

I'm also interested in trading this for an electric or gas golf cart

Location: Monticello

Wow. Just wow. The sad thing is that he built this using plans on the Internet. Whoever drew up those plans must never have actually seen a real arcade cabinet. Ever. Either that, or it was just a joke - how *not* to build a game, that got mistaken. And what's even worse, if the plans came from somewhere online, that means that there is the potential for more of these to exist!

I don't get the whole aircraft carrier sized control panel, or the marquee being three feet above the top of the monitor. And what's the point of a drawer to hold the keyboard? I think there are more buttons on that control panel than there are on the keyboard as it is... And what, the cabinet is already the size of a Volkswagen, but he couldn't manage to fit the speakers inside, and he had to put them on top?

The only consolation is that this abomination was built from scratch, and not by trashing a classic cabinet. The only thing it hurts is itself, and whoever looks at it.

Same cab design.. different results in looks.. Yes, I did build this mame/hyperspin using the mameroom kit cab. They sell the designs for it and I'm sure that is what the user above me used. However, theirs looks a bit more narrow and only a 19" screen. The cab is designed for a 27" monitor. Please tell me mine doesn't look as bad.. The control panel is big but its roomy for myself and kids. I wouldn't have it any other way to be honest. The full build can be seen here. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=103549.0

I think yours does look much better. Cute picture with your daughter too.

I think the CL one is one of those cases where they tried to build everything to fit every possibility and wound up with a monstrosity.

How often do four people really play these machines?

Do any 4-player games need six buttons for each player?

The most inspiring MAME machine I ever saw was a simple
P.O.W. cabinet, unmolested. It would even load up POW
automatically at boot, for posterity. So simple. So clean.

I ended up doing something nearly identical with another 19" dynamo cabinet.

What, do you enjoy sitting in your house and complaining about MAME cabinets? It's the least we can do.

In my case where I have 2 children who like to have myself or mommy play with them the 4 player option works very well. If I was a single man I would not have a 4 player cabinet.

No, there isn't any 4 player games that use 6 buttons.. the max is 4 buttons used by the D&D games. That is why my player 3 and 4 has only 4 buttons instead of 6. I tried to keep my control panel limited but yet versitile enough. My joysticks are 8 way or 4 way. When I want to play Donkey Kong, I just lift and twist the joysick and it locks into 4 way mode. Another way to keep the panel clean.
