This Old Game

I just got a package from Avidgeek this week and it was updated everyday and yes it was from USPS.

Andrew

Have faith. The USPS tracking thing never updates. At least I have never had one single package sent or received show any sort of update on the USPS website. Its a bit of a joke and a true testament to the USPS' digital inefficiency when compared against companies like FedEx and UPS.

This. USPS tracking is a complete joke. I've had items delivered to me from across the country before the tracking info even appeared at all.

We need a video of Bruno for stuff like this "Ram Effect, hello!"

There is no such thing as USPS "tracking", only "delivery confirmation". Why one would consider it a joke when it was never claimed to be such a service is beyond me. (Now, that does not mean that I don't think that USPS should have "full tracking"). I think that the system is starting to get some tracking type events added, so sometimes there will be 'en route' events added. But I don't think that is promised or should be expected.

If the system shows that "electronic shipping info received" then that is just that the shipper made a shipping label. It doesn't mean that they actually gave it to USPS. I have NO doubt that Rich will fulfill this order. Perhaps Rich shouldn't send the shipping info to USPS before he actually ships it to avoid this confusion? /shrug

Don't forget, the act of printing a label starts that tracking process either way.

yep for the most part orders get put together/ boxed labeled. etc.
the minette I generate those mostly through paypal the "tracking"
is automatically sent. and alot times labels will be genrate in batches depending on the amount Im shipping over the next few days. so it might actually be 1 or 2 days after its packed label and phsically taken to the PO. or picked up by my carrier
and obviously weekends and holidays dont help.

I recently had another order. where after 2 weeks after sending prioty mail and no show on the tracking info.
I Packaged and had a replacement ready to send when it mysteriously and finally showed up just a few days ago.
and "tracking" last time I check still never showed it delivered. :(

USPS tracking is a funny thing.
I just sent a package using the small flat rate box and it showed every step in the delivery process and most times it doesn't.
Most times it only shows info received and that it was delivered.
My buddy that works at USPS said only packages sent overnight or express track the package.
Priority only has a delivery confirmation.

Yes, USPS tracking is very odd...

I ordered a control panel from JimFly on December 7th, 2010. He mailed it out on December 7th, USPS tracking said it would arrive on December 21st. Well, by the 27th I got a little nervous and inquired about it. Jim told me that the USPS website is not always accurate..... The panel finally showed up on December 31st.

The lesson learned is patience and the USPS is not gospel.... :)

And as an addendum, I have ordered from Rich a couple of times and received nothing but solid service, so I would not sweat it.

I recall asking USPS once about this and they stated that packages appear being tracked but only when a scanner catches the barcode. So some packages will seem as if it updates frequently and others will only show when accepted at the post office and till "out for delivery".

Only guaranteed tracking through USPS is Express mail.

I ship USPS priority almost every day and the tracking numbers almost always update, and very very often. If checked in the morning, they'll even say if delivery is expected that day. I don't understand how people report such the opposite experience.

I think USPS believes more in their tracking numbers as well, since they're removing the "delivery/signature confirmation" wording from electronically generated labels and actually using the words "tracking number". This is part of the January '11 price change:

In most cases, this means that you will now see the words "USPS Tracking #" above your barcode.* For example, if you are using Signature Confirmation™, all you will see above the barcode is "USPS Tracking #". As a result, it will not be obvious from simply looking at the label that you've purchased this service. However, Postal Carriers will still know that a signature is required when they scan the label.

Here is a brief summary of the new text by service:

Service; New Text
DELIVERY CONFIRMATION; USPS TRACKING #
SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION; USPS TRACKING #
EXPRESS MAIL; USPS TRACKING #
CERTIFIED MAIL; USPS CERTIFIED MAIL™
REGISTERED MAIL; USPS REGISTERED MAIL™
OPEN AND DISTRIBUTE; USPS SCAN ON ARRIVAL

It must vary by area / post office or something because I too have had very mixed experiences with USPS tracking. A few times it works as well as UPS' tracking -- you see it every time it moves. Most often I see it only when it gets picked up and delivered.

Occasionally it never updates at all but still arrives. Fortunately the USPS never really seems to lose anything of mine...

I don't know.. are you guys not using the priority boxes provided by the postal service? Are the packages otherwise not made clear that they're priority or have a barcode? These are three random recent shipments to different parts of the country... all updated very frequently as usual. Priority is still the best combo of speed, price, and tracking for me. Consistently 2-3 days from NJ to as far as CA.

I always use the priority boxes supplies by USPS and have printed my own label and not.
Either way the tracking isn't consistent.

Delivery confirmation is NOT tracking, just because it appears to update with location, the delivery confirmation service isn't to be used as tracking...

As previously stated by another poster and then ignored.

I have seen usps shipping very weired.

ive seen more then one package shipped to me lately thats been "info recieved" untill it was delivered and then it said delivered..

so for whatever reason thier tracking is a little screwey...

give it another week man

i've had it both ways with USPS, where tracking updates were frequent and other times when the package was delivered before tracking ever updated.

i've had much better luck with FedEx Ground where the tracking is updated constantly (and is included in the price, along with basic insurance.)
