This, my friends, is what a $275 Super Zaxxon looks like...

Picked this up from the local Pawn America superstore last night... Traded in some musical gear I no longer used to pay for it! It's LIKE NEW!!! Maybe one of you local MN collectors had it and re-did everything on it, possibly, for all I know?!?! I have fond memories of playing the original Zaxxon "Back in the Day" at Outer Limits and The Coin Collector here in St. Cloud, so when I saw this show up at the pawn shop, I did a little research on it, realized that a DEDICATED SZ cabinet is somewhat rare, tried it out to make sure it worked, haggled a little on the price (They had it at $299), and recruited my buddy and his dolly to help me get it home.

I had never seen a Super Zaxxon previously, and read on here how much more difficult it is compared to the original, but decided "what the heck, I need a challenging game!", and snapped it up. There are only a couple minor blemishes on the sideart, nothing bad at all, though. Other than that, it looks and plays like it's brand-new... The internal set-up is very clean and organized as well. It came with the original owner's manual, and a ton of other goodies, too, like various Sega flyers for several games from the same era.

Enjoy the pics!

Brian

I'd wager that came from the cereal contest as well.

My buddy's mother in law won from that contest and won't let him and his wife take the Super Zaxxon even though she doesn't play it. Great game, I'd like one eventually.

Actually, yes, that was mine. Somebody stole it out of my car. Can you please return it to my house?

That Pawn America must get a lot of games. Didn't they have a Street Fighter there too??
Looks like it is in really nice shape!

I think they do... They've only been at their new location for a couple of months now, and the sales guy said this was the 3rd game they've handled: Super Zaxxon, the Street Fighter CE I mentioned a few weeks ago, and apparently another one, not sure which. The guy also said they couldn't handle these games at their old location, because it was such a small store, but now with the bigger building, they take 'em in on a fairly regular basis. I have NO room for any more machines, so I'll try to give you guys the "heads-up" when I see one in there, 'cuz I stop in on a fairly regular basis just to browse the store. The thing that I really like about buying from them is that you can probably count on the game being in good, solid WORKING condition, and their prices on all their merchandise are fairly reasonable, but you can still try and haggle a little, like I did.

BTW, as I had read from all of you when researching this game the last few days, it truly IS an ass-kicker! On the difficulty level of Defender, I would say... My typical game is over in about a minute, LOL!

@jow: Thanks, LOL! ;>)

Guys,

I have a sneaking suspicion that this IS one of the "Halfsies" cereal box game prizes! I just pulled out the coin-box for the first time, and inside it was an instruction sheet explaining that the game had been set-up at the factory for "free-play" mode, and it gives you the instructions for it.

Anybody know any other ways to "officially" document whether or not it is?!?!

There have been a couple Super Zaxxon's on CL in MN in the last year, it is probably one of those games that didn't sell. If you bought it for $275, I can't imagine what ripoff Pawn America gave the guy for it. $50 maybe. I remember seeing a STTNG at the Pawn America in Fargo for $2,800 and of course it had issues like crazy and a Flash pinball at the Pawn America in St. Paul that didn't work and sat there for months because they wanted $800 for it.

What's the count on the coin counter? I would imagine a contest game setup for free play would not have a lot on the counter.

I wish mine looked as nice as yours. Unfortunately mine spent most of its life in a bar so it needs a new CPO and could use some new side art too. My side art is about half gone.
