I need a monitor for an empty cab I have. I want a regular 19" monitor for a generic JAMMA test machine. However, new monitors are expensive and used monitors cost an arm and a leg to ship. One thing I do have is a bunch of Sanyo 20EZ monitors from Nintendo games. I have never known a lot about monitors (other than the cost), so everytime I got a junked machine that still had a good monitor, I kept it. I know what you're thinking...junked machine???? Fix it!!! When I say junked machine, I mean I was stupid when transporting 2 double-monitor PlayChoice 10 machines and they toppled over and the cabs broke beyond repair. Everything inside was fine, but I had to gut them. Now I want a regular monitor but all I have are these Sanyos. I know that you can purchase a kit online to replace the capacitors and invert the video for use with JAMMA games (http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Monitors). The kit costs $10 + shipping. I am not skilled with a soldering iron yet. I have recently taken one of the monitors apart and sold the monitor PCB. The tube had severe burn-in so I didn't mind doing this. I realized how easy it was to pull the board without damaging anything.

My first and most important question is...Am I able to buy a standard resolution chasis and put one of my other Sanyo tubes in it??? This would cut the cost of the monitor and I have these tubes lying around anyways.

My second question is...should I get one of these inversion kits and convert the monitor???

My last thought is...I know this is blasphemy, but I can get my hands on a 4:3 aspect ration lcd computer monitor and converter pcb for $100. How bad is the picture compared to the real arcade monitor??? Does anyone have pictures that show a good comparison or know a site that does??? If I am just using this machine as a test cab, does it really matter which one I use???

I am a major NERD when it comes to arcades and videogames. I like everything I have to be 100% working and dedicated/original. However, I am confined by space and the lack of thickness to my wallet. Any thoughts on these topics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
