So i have a seriously ambitious project i want to do. It is arcade related, and it would be costly. I won't say what game it is.. but i want to do a reproduction of a game, that would include cabinet, T-molding, entire art package, metal kit, some game specific non metal parts, and wiring harness. Probably a very limited run, and each unit would be roughly 1000.00 or maybe more just in all the parts to put it together.

This would be something that has to be done first, and made available. Taking orders for it without a physical example (or the entire run) done with pictures and immediately available, it would never fly.

So, when the time comes, do i announce what it is, and then everyone who donates to the kickstarter, give them the amount donated off purchase price?

looking for ideas, suggestions, etc. It's well within my skills to make these happen, it's not within my budget to do it is the problem. this is something i would like to fire up in August.

What do you suspect your goal to reach would be?

Maybe come up with something creative as well... off the top of my head from reading the Kickstarter projects from time to time:

$10.00 - Gets their name in the "Special Thanks" section of the manual. (you'll have to write a manual)
$25.00 - Gets the above, plus their last name listed on the serial number tag on the cabinet.
$50.00 - Gets all above, plus $25.00 off of purchase price.
$100 - Gets $10 and $25 awards, plus $50.00 off purchase price.
$500 - Gets $10, $25 awards, plus $200 off purchase price, plus a bartop arcade game kit...

You get the idea...

Yeah, make it a tiered system with creative incentives as above. Maybe do some stuff like::

$100 = $100 towards game purchase, or free t-shirt or something else low in value

$200 = $200 towards purchase, or a bartop kit if kickstarter backs out on buying the reproduction

$600 = $600 towards purchase, or any cabinet valued $XXX or less from your usual cabinets list

$1000 = pre-paid game

$1500 = pre-paid and shipped game

And depending on what the game is I'd be all in (unless it's a repro Moppet or something I already have).

Oh and be VERY CAREFUL with this project. Be sure to keep the budgeting nice and loose and the final price as a non-specific range. If costs end up skyrocketing you could take a huge loss if this gets a lot of attention.

it really depends on how many i do. rough estimate is about 1K per game.. i need to do at least 10. With the metal kits being a minimum of 25 i may do a total number of 25. I want to be completely specific when the time comes, so people are going to see -

1. what it is
2. EXACTLY what is included
3. all the details about where all the parts and pieces came from, and who did them (the usual players in the repro game around here)
4. Final cost of game, and crating etc if shipping is required.

I don't want it to be a handout in any way. I'd prefer the people who end up donating, are the people that are going to get one of the 25 offered. It will more or less be a downpayment on the item, and balance due when they are completed.

I also plan on keeping weekly updates as pieces are made, as they arrive to me, and lots of pictures of the progress as these all go together. I am going to completely stop taking cabinet orders just prior to firing this up, i want to be able to dedicate myself to this project 100%. I also have at least two klovers who will be involved in this project, helping me with sourcing, logistics, and hands on assembly.

I wish i could say what it is right now, but i promised a good friend i won't until he's completely sure he will have the time to dedicate to this, since he will be traveling 5 + hours to come help over the course of 5 - 8 weekends.

Please let it be DOT...please let it be DOT...

I was leaning more towards like a Mahjong Super cab myself. :)

All jokes aside, this sounds like it has the potential to be epic. Good luck man! Can't wait to hear what the game will be!

It's a 70% scale Jrpac cab, with crystal castles sideart, running golden tee 2K

...well not really, i just wanted to get adam's hopes up before i jerked the rug out from under him.

Please please please be that 70% Jr. Pac cab everyone has been waiting for...oh wait..that can't be it..because this is a reproduction. You can't reproduce something that has never been made before! Doh!

I wish you the best of luck with this. You've hinted at this product a few times in the past on here. Just make sure you make enough money off of it... $1000 doesn't sound like you'll make squat for your time and effort.

Well, the idea behind Kickstarter is to ensure that you have enough funds to begin the project. If you don't reach that set goal, then no one who pledged money will be charged.

So how much would you need to get this off the ground and make it worthwhile? I would think a goal of $1000 wouldn't be enough since that might only fund one cabinet. If you want to do a run of 25, a goal of $25000 may be a bit much...I guess it depends on how sought after this repro could be and a matter of getting the word out to the entire collecting community.

Maybe keep it simple in an effort to fund 5 cabinets or so and see how it goes. If you don't get the money, it's not like the project is 'dead' or anything.

let me say this will not be a working game. but once it gets announced, everyone will see what it takes to make it working, and it won't be too difficult. and no, no chinese boards of any kind lol. 1000.00 is my current guess as to what it will take to make each one. and that really isn't figuring in the materials for the actual cabinet. I want to have a good chunk of my own money in this project to make it happen, i don't want anyone thinking i expect the buyers to foot the entire bill to make it happen. Ambitious is an understatement once people see what it is lol i can say its a 4 figure game without fail.
