Ive met lots of really great people since I started collecting, but Ive also met some real ..... Ill say crazy people. You know the people who jump/survive by trying to screw over other people. EXample, buddy of mine looking for a GT2005 guy says he has a mint one no issues. We get there turn it on and wow the screen is so dark its almost pitch black. And the seller says "wow that just happened "" I guess thats why he didnt post pictures. Or when I picked up my wacko and it didnt work but the guy swore up and down it was only a fuse !!! So when I asked him why he didnt put in a new fuse that cost a buck he says ok ill give you $200 bucks off. Anyhow Im sure theres lots of funny stories out there.

well I'm sot sure yet but I met some people with wild Jamma claims like a Turtles in time with a chip error(told me so). I'll see what else I get pending $$ and space...

I have had games break just as a seller comes by to inspect. It does happen, but yeah there's some greasy people out there. Buyer beware.

I recently had two games that have been working fine for years, go south just before the buyers came by to pick them up. In both cases, they survived the Houston Arcade Show only to fail when the buyers came by. In one case, I ended up swapping in a new power supply board, a new MPU board and a new sound card. In the other case, the game was blowing the GFI in my garage. I ended up putting a new switching power supply into it. After the fixes, both games worked fine.

So it does happen, but there are a lot of shady sellers out there who do stretch the condition of their machines.

sorry I couldnt resist - just kind of an interesting topic from a guy with a screen name "weasel"

Grabbed an empty cab from someone once - he told me that everything was there except the boards. Blitz cab.

I got there, and it was missing the back door, marquee fixture, monitor bezel, power supply, ISO transformer, monitor chassis AND tube yoke.

Needless to say the price went to zero in a hurry. Grabbed the cab anyway - ended up giving it away a short time later. Tube was shorted - thus the condition.

I talked to a guy on the phone about a Joust that he claimed was in good shape and working well. He was over two hours away and told me to make him an offer. I said 200.00 and he said 250.00. I said fine. Took my family on a roadtrip and when we got there this guy just started to try and sell us on purchasing ACN (some pyramid marketing bullshit). I said no and we finally went out to see the Joust. When we got there, it was completely blanketed in dust and stored covered outside. The back door was gone and the monitor chassis was missing. He told me, no big deal, he could just put another G07 chassis back on there from his shop (It turned out to be a K4900). I didn't have the time to deal with all of that and I was going to walk on the deal. The boards were all there, everything was original and there wasn't any water damage, so I offered 120.00. He took it.

Basically, I think he just wanted to get me there to try and sell me on that ACN thing. In the end, I'm glad I went because it didn't take much to get it running and cleaned up pretty well, but this guy was full of shit and my lesson learned is to always get pictures beforehand.

This was just an everyday occurrence with Superauctions. "It worked this morning when we plugged it in"

It happens, you can use a machine for months without issues then when someone is coming to look at it or pick it up it acts up.

Right??? These machines have souls too and when they don't want to move to a new home they definitely let you know that sometimes...LOL

It's not just arcade games that have a little ghost in the machine, I do computer repair work and have just the opposite happen all the time, Customer calls me and tells me whats wrong with their machine, I have them bring it in, ask them to show me exactly what's wrong, and darned if the thing works PERFECTLY, not a thing wrong with it.

When I just got my Time Pilot, i was told "Some parts of it work, some don't" and that was it, Turns out that other than some dings in the case, and some cosmetic restoration that it needs, the only thing REALLY wrong with it was 2 of the 4 joystick micro switches were bad. Not only that, but it had $25 in Quarters in it... But since I was given the game by the Local YMCA, I brought the quarters back to them.

Great thread, and it has happened to me... I was selling a Golden Axe that never, ever game me a single problem. The first guy who came by, turned it on, and about 5 seconds later it cuts out. Turned it off, tried again -- same thing. So embarrassing.

Turns out the door was a little loose from when I was checking it before, and the damned safety interlock kept shutting it down, after I leaned over the machine to turn it on.
