This is worse than a Suicide Battery!

I already despise Capcom a great deal because of what they did with Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition in the US (a little background: Taito had worked out a deal to release the English verison of the game in the US this March just for arcades, they had a press release ready to go and then Capcom decided it was a great time to announce the console release of the game, which would kills Taito's efforts; I already had an order placed that I couldn't cancel and the game did great until Jun 7th, which since then it's been pretty lousy and it's not making anywhere near enough to pay itself off now); I refuse to give them any more business in the future as it is. But this shows where console gaming is going to go and why I really don't care for modern stuff. PC gaming sucks because there are times where it is a huge hassle to play the game you paid for (or when I bought Batman Arkum Asylum for PC, someone had already used my key). I also haven't bought any new or used games in a while after having purchased more than one game "new" that some employee had already taken home and humped. But I guess that's what we have to deal with for wonderful modern gaming experiences.

That sucks. Has to be #1 reason why the arcade scene in America is almost non-existent.
Many folks that I chat with on a Tekken forum keep begging for Namco to release Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for US arcade release. This is why operators do NOT want to risk an ass load of money for these new Japanese machines. And I don't blame them 1 bit.

Good point, I didn't even think of that! Does Taito offer any conversions for that SFV? Can you put two together and run Darius Burst? That game is AWESOME! Also isn't there a Space Invaders for the Type X?

As it's a TypeX2 board there are a few games out there I could get software for, but haven't seen anything that has really caught my eye - except for maybe Raiden IV.

Darius Burst is DEFINITELY on my radar, I'm not sure the exact configuration of that though, if it uses SLI or if it's two connected TypeX2 boards. That is a game I think will get somewhere because it's so unique. I wouldn't be worried about getting undercut on that and I think people will play it a lot because there is nothing else like it out there.

There is a Space Invaders for Type X but it works a little differently - there isn't a harddrive you can buy for it necessarily as it uses Taito's NESiCAxLIVE online network. If you get a NESICA server and have a Type X2 board, then you can have games like SI and other downloaded to it. It charges the player a small fee which is split between developers in cases of 3rd party software - and then the operator puts their fee on it.

I didn't know anything about how Space Invaders worked, that is interesting. I know I love Space Invaders Extreme.

I might have to go to Utah if you get a Darius Burst! ;)

TTT2 crossed my mind at first until I saw how they were going about it. For any fighter to be viable in the US you need a couple of things:

1) Decent price
2) one board = two players
3) Guarantee of decent period of exclusive time in arcades (or an outright Arcade-only edition, which SF should have remained since the consoles already got two versions of it)
4) Good name recognition on the game

When it comes to Japanese fighters these days, they don't often fit into these categories. There are some cheap fighters I could get but because "fighter fans" are very particular about which series they play, it's rare anyone cares for anything other than SF/MK/TKN.

It also is very popular in Japan to do games in the 1 board = 1 player setup. It is a cool way to do it but it gets ridiculously expensive. It's why I stayed away from the first SFIV and SSFIV as you had to buy two boards and two HD cabinets. Some spent about $40,000 to get that setup. Not worth it on a game that will absolutely come to consoles.

TTT2 is going the SF route - T6 did have two players on one board but now they've decided against that. They are making a kit available but it's well overpriced and after buying two it will be about $13k-$14k the best I can tell. There is no reason they couldn't make a version that would work for American arcades that I know of, they just need to really want to do it and give us operators a little something special with a feature, stages or characters.

I didn't know about the 1 PCB = only 1 player. That is ridiculous. Even if you were to put it in a dynamo showcase or even a 2 player Noir cab you can't wire it for 2 players?

That is one thing about Asia. They are so cramped for space yet almost all of their machines are set up for 1 player. Where here in the states, we have lots of room and if the game is a 2 player or more. It's set up for 2 player or more on 1 fricken machine.

When I was stationed in Japan they would have 2 netcity cabs running 2 pcbs of the same game just for 2 player play. And they do this for just about every multi player game. Think of all the wasted room and money? No wonder the game companies make so much money over there. Japanese are big spenders and if they want something bad enough, it doesn't matter the price sometimes. Here is the opposite. LOL

No, the software doesn't support the two players on one cabinet. It does allow them to network up to eight machines on something like SFIV, which also has a special ranking system that connects with the iPhone (that they removed for the US version of course). It's true that they certainly can afford to do a lot of this stuff in Asia but it sucks that the US arms of these companies don't push for a special US version that is tailored to our needs, in the case of fighters. I do think in part that's because they know the game will die the moment it is released by the parent company on consoles. Until they decide to bite the bullet and make some arcade exclusive fighters, the scene won't grow and will be limited to a few select areas.

NESICA is a sweet idea that would need some changes for the US, but I think it would be a huge boon to us here. Here's the official site for it that shows off more games:

http://nesica.net/

The biggest plus is if something like that got a foothold here, the amount of new game content operators could provide would be huge. I can maybe manage to get one or two new games a year if I'm lucky. With something like NESiCA, I could provide as many as they offer as you can actually either purchase the game out right or do an online revenue share with Taito where it essentially rents the game out to the locations and the profits are split. I think the biggest problem holding a system like this back in the US is the lack of operators who have or want to install internet at their location.

I might have to go to Utah if you get a Darius Burst! ;)

Stay tuned ;)

Just one more step towards bankruptcy for Capcom as they outrage and alienate their loyal customers further and further. They've pretty much killed off the Mega Man franchise to my chagrin. I know that every gaming company wants to make as much money as possible, but most companies also want to make products that their customers like.

It seems that for a while now Capcom could care less about what the consumers like as long as the games they churn out make them tons of money. Even more damning is the fact that they are money hungrier than most in that they very rarely take chances on making new games and pretty much "go back to the well" and make sequel after sequel of their most popular titles because they know they are safe titles.

It's sad to see Capcom in the state that they are.....but those bastards brought it on themselves.

Geez, Taito should just put 3G in their cabinets!

Don't forget the Smurfs game where they robbed little kids.

Um, I think you guys are jumping the gun a little bit. The only thing that can't be reset is the HIGH SCORE. You start a game, and blow up zombies. Whoever blows up the most gets the high score, which can never be reset.

With a different PR , this would have been an AWESOME feature. How cool is that, you can kick ass so bad nobody can ever touch it, for ever? This is like Frogger on Seinfeld.

.................

Course that won't stop everybody from bitching about Capcom; or for trying to make this out like it's a bad thing even though they clearly got the news wrong.

Capcom is the reason why I never ever want to ever work for a Japanese company again.

They demand utmost respect in their heirarcy but show no respect for their employees and customers. The Tsujimoto family can rot for all I care...

I hate capcom because of what they do with almost every street fighter game....

street fighter 2 had like 5 updates, same with 3, 2 updates. They did it again with 4, 2 updates! dam you capcom for not releasing a full game once!......and what pissed me off the most was what they did with the arcade version of street fighter 4.....required 2 boards for 2 player, and 8 less characters.

You guys are totally right. Fuck Capcom, fuck them in their kid robbin' disguised as Smurfs, suicide battery using, non high score re-settin' allowin', non customer or employee appreciatin', way too high and mighty yet lazy non new game developin' asses! Fuck them all!

And the best way to do that is for whoever is closest to me to sell a couple of Capcom Big Blues as cheap as possible (those stupid things are too fuckin' big anyway), preferably the taller Q - Sound ones with extended control panel and huge ass marquee. You cats better dump some games too, like Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Capcom vs SNK 2. If cheap enough, I just MIGHT be able to find a buyer. Maybe. But that shit better be KLOV prices, yo.

Fuckin' Capcom. Fuck them in their fuckin' earhols.

Seriously though, sell me that stuff.

And no, I won't be going to CAX. *insert bitter sad face fist shakin' smiley guy here*

I'd still buy the game (cheap or on sale). This is just a game where you need to get necessary high scores to unlock extras. Once I've unlocked everything on a game like this, I don't have the desire to erase my save and do it all again just to unlock the extras I had already put time into. If it was an adventure/rpg game with a storyline, then I'd have a different opinion.

Yes, it's an odd move by CAPCOM but I also think that this will just motivate those in the homebrew NDS/3DS community even more to start looking at the game-cartridge hardware and find a way to hack/reset the memory inside and develop suitable flashcarts/devices to handle this kind of tactic.

lol i got a whole row of capcom big blues, best cabs ever! very easy to find here in california

If I had a dollar for every time I played through the Halo CE campaign, I'd have a lot of money.

Same for most games I have bought. I played though them many times. A game with only one play and only one save is completely worthless to me.

As far as I'm concerned, Capcom is dead. They might as well pack it in.

The best way to give Capcom the screws is to buy a Chinese made CPSII 18-in-1 and drop THAT bad boy in your cab.

:)

I stopped buying ANYTHING that requires online activation and/or continuous online connection (IE: That scam called STEAM).

Screw that. I will not do it. Period. I bought Half Life 2 and have never played it.

Frizz Half-Life 2 is awesome! Just use a crack if you don't wanna be connected to steam.

+1

1. Regurgitate titles from the 80s and 90s and add "HD" or "Remix" or "Max" at the end of it. Check!
2. Run the creator of one of your most beloved franchises (Mega Man) out of town and in turn ruin the franchise itself. Check!
3. Try to come up with stupid anti-used game sales methods that will only anger your customers. Check!

Hmm...can anyone else add to this list? I'm sure there's more. Again, well done Capcom.
