While I got Lunar Lander and Paddle Battle back in '84.... the "collector" bug didn't really bite me until about 6 years ago. Until then, I believed that these monsters were way out of my price range to acquire. I've since learned different.
Today, an old friend of mine, whom I legitimately love as a brother, came by with his wife and kids. I won't get into the politics of "raising children", but his two(boy and girl) were apparently raised "old school", and were very polite. That said, they also enjoyed the shit out of my relatively small "home arcade". While their scores weren't the best, they kept playing, and had an absolute blast. It made me think back to how much I had enjoyed the games in an arcade, when they actually cost money to play. I only had 3 of the 4 running, but they kept bouncing around, playing one, then another, as kids will do.
Even his wife played a few, despite having very little experience playing them. They really seemed to enjoy the three I had running, and it really gave me incentive to rig Lunar Lander to play Asteroids. I have a control panel, as well as a PCB, but don't have a wiring harness. I do, however, have the pin-outs for both games, and think I can "engineer" what I have on hand to be able to play it.
A good time was had by all, and it really made me proud to be a collector. Here are a few pics from today's fun:
