Guy dropped it off a while ago at my restaurant. It came across my CraigsNotifica app on my phone while i was driving to work this morning. It was extremely cheap and in the same town as me (which is a rare occurrence). As soon as I walked in the door I called him and he agreed to bring it by my restaurant. One of the bumpers does not work, the playfield is extrememly dirty and has wear but should clean up ok. I will need to replace some of the plastics as well. The slings seem pretty weak to me. The coin door was converted to home use only, so i guess I will be looking for a coin door or parts for a coin door... Edit: and the 4th player display is not working.

I bought it for $300.

Nice score... Classic Playfields is repro'ing the High Speed playfield. You could end up with a really beautiful machine for under a grand if its a keeper.

Hmm. Everything was working pretty well until I turned it off. I turned it back on to show someone and then the music wasn't working but the sounds were. So I turned it back off and on once more and it says "Factory Setting" and will not move beyond that. Guess I need to start doing some repair research now.

I need to start with the battery holder. There is some obvious corrosion buildup on the terminals. Maybe that is causing the trouble?

Pull the batteries, and desolder the battery holder and add separate wires and mount it (or a new one preferably) off board ASAP. Check for acid damage on the board (white coloring of the solder traces) around the battery holder.

If no acid damage yet, you're lucky. It may just be bad connections causing system reset after power down (or just dead batteries). I dealt with the same issue. A new battery holder and batteries and all was well for 4 years.

The sound comes from both the primary CPU board and the separate background sound board up and left of the main board. There are 2 4 pin analog wires (one to link to CPU board, and one to send to voulume control), a 4 pin power (+5 / -12V) and then a 20 pin digital ribbon cable to select the appropriate sounds. Wiggle them and you should find the problem if it is intermittent.

Check the System 11 repair FAQ's. You will want to also pick up a couple fuse blocks/8 Amp slow blow fuses and add them to the lower right of the backbox as Williams forgot to put them on the early system 11 games and therefore a short in one of the two bridge rectifiers there could start a fire. Simple, low cost protection before you start digging further.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to get the game to boot properly and play the music. I pulled the pcb anyways and there is some definite corrosion on the pcb. Since it is working, I am going to remove the battery holder and clean it up good and keep my fingers crossed that I got to it in time.

Shit. I cleaned up the corrosion and replaced the battery holder. I cleaned the pcb with a vinegar solution to stop any corrosion from continuing. Now that it is installed in the machine again, there is a blanking problem and it will not boot...

So I did send this pcb off to Clive at the Coin Op Cauldron. He said there was a 5 week backlog but he delivered in 3 weeks. In his words there was "an unusual amount of damage." He had it on the bench for four hours. I suspect I may have caused a short when I re-installed the pcb in the cabinet by not securing it tight enough. Along with several bad components, the roms were all corrupted as well.

I cleaned it up good, replaced all the rubbers and lamps, replaced a burnt pop bumper coil and installed a repro plastic ramp. It's amazing the difference some novus and then a few good coats of wax did for this machine also. It plays great now. The only battle i have right now is that the switches on the pop bumpers are giving me headaches. I'll adjust and clean then and they will work great, but I come back several hours later and they are not wanting to respond well again. Might need to replace the switches.

Here are a few new pictures:

Thx. All of these switches are really dirty...

I need to tackle the non-working display now. The pop bumpers are working pretty well right now. I might replace the switches for them anyway.

That cab looks fantastic for the age. playfield inserts and some time could save that PF. I just picked up one a while ago also and what a fun game. The kids like mine more than Twilight Zone or Revenge from Mars. Mine had factory Mylar so the wear is minimal on the PF but the cab required a lot of repaint, and a lot of TLC. High Speed is one of the great affordable pins out there.

It is definitely the best of my two pins. My other is Space Invaders which is a cool but kinda slow, boring game. High Speed is much faster and you really have to plan your shots or the ball will drain at a high rate.

The total cost of buying and fixing up both of my pins is sub-$1000, so I won't be complaining.

I've adjusted a bunch of things including needing to tap some new mounting holes for the repro ramp to line up properly. I still have not replaced the two big rubber rings under the lane change because I don't know how to disassemble it.

Does anyone have any advice on disassembling the lane change assembly???
