Pretty sure someone is trying to scam me.

So I got an email from someone saying they have a Popeye Conversion Kit for sale.

Hello Buddy
I'm emailing in respect to your advert. Please let me know if you are still looking for Popeye PCB, Email and I'll get back to you.

Warm Regards

I thought I would ask to see if they had a picture of the items and a closeup. So they sent me a photo and some info.

Todd - Thanks for writing. Sorry for the late in response as I was busy. I just got a chance to check my email. Yes, I have the Popeye Kit - Tested and working. Kit includes working PCB set, PCB cage, PCB cage connector board, Unhacked harness from a dedicated machine, bezel, CPO, marquee, working power supply, and manual. Asking for $210 plus Walmart fee shipped. I'm in Wisconsin and will ship via UPS. The price includes shipping. What is your complete shipping address?

Thanks

T Norris

My favorite is the last email I got back.

Sorry No, I can't. Sorry, should have sent you pictures but that's the only picture I can send. I have it saved on my computer before my phone developed fault. My phone is with my engineer as we speak. What is your complete shipping address not only your zip code??

Thanks

T Norris

What do you guys think? I was really excited for some new parts until I found out I was getting scammed.

His language is odd, but it could be legit. Use Paypal and don't gift the money, that way you are covered. If he doesn't want to use Paypal, forgetaboutit.

I don't know, this smells fishy to me. His phone developed a "fault" and is with his engineer? Who talks like that?

Who says phone developed a fault and is currently with my engineer? Just an odd statement.

So are they asking to wire the funds via Walmart? If so RUN.

No. It's a scam. He's probably getting your address to say you gave him too much and send you an invalid check with the difference or something and then 'realize' he added an extra 0 and ask for that extra back out of "the kindness of your heart", to get real money and then the check gets drawn back/declined. Usually done to sellers not buyers without the first step, but could happen this way too.

Another update:
Mine are in excellent condition. I can advise there's nothing To worry about. I already explained to you why I cannot get pictures sent. If you can find someone to come look at them at the my address, I think that will b perfect. LMK if that's okay with you

Someone should stop by their address! ;)
