The craigslist bandits strike!

So today someone listed a decent condition asteroids deluxe minus a power supply issue. The put it up for free and within no time the guys message machine was max'd out and I have no chance! It's all fair game, but man is it frustrating when you know it's just going to get turned around and we'll all see it at $500 next week on craigslist...

Maybe I'm whining, but it seems hard to catch a deal anymore on craigslist. I feel it's going the way of ebay.

You have to be fast around here.I wouldnt say there's lots of collectors but theres enough if your not quick its gone befor you even see the add. Buy the time you called I bet there was someone allready half way to his house if not loading it up allready. Also you never know there ay have been a collector looking for one. There's a bunch that just got posted for 100-150 on there right now thats a great deal you should pick some up if your not allready to late.

Just face it, everyone seriously looking for arcade games or specific items has a little program that informs them automatically of any new related listings on CL and ebay. The only thing to determine how long it takes to sell is the price. If it's FREE, expect it to be gone by the time you inquire.

After awhile of thinking about that crap, I just said the hell with it. I know now that some of the guys have their wife look 24/7 for arcade stuff. The only way you are goona get one of those deals is if you accidentally find it first.

When crap is on CL for free, it really broadens the field. Anything that I have given away on CL has been gone within MINUTES. At least in this area, there have to be packrats just scanning the free section for anything of value and snatching it up.

I bet if that cab was $50, it may have lasted an hour.

From the pics, it looked as if it was out in the rain anyway.

it comes down to luck and dedication. I never used any program to inform me of when a game popped up on CL but I checked it a lot and beat others to the punch all the time. Your best bet is always to be the first person to contact the seller. Beyond that it comes down to the impression you make on the seller and if the sellers motivation is strictly money or something more. Oh and I never played the I'll offer more game.

I spose you guys are right. I'll just keep putting the word out that these things make my day, and maybe word will get out to friends n' fam so the chance they can tip me off before it hits a craigs ad I'll be golden.

I could already feel the buttons below my fingers!! whaaaaa!!!! :.(

RSS feeds are definitely changing how the whole thing works. It's funny though, people complain about missing these things on here, but I saw plenty of peopel getting good deals, just not the best deal every time. Hey I missed a free Star Wars pinball in MN, that only needed new glass over the playfield. Person was moving, left it at the curb because it didn't fit in the truck!!! I guess I just resolved to be happy that with CL and other online things at least these games are getting love instead of shoved in a leaky shed and rotting where no one gets them. There is a certain person I used to deal with that had about 8 semi's full of games, with all the roofs leaking...it kills me, but he was the kind of person who found all these deals before cl and means existed. It's not perfect but it's better than the alternative. :)

That's it man. Network. My best deals were all from word of mouth. Tell anyone that you buy a game from, that you are always on the lookout for more. Before you know it, you will be turning down $100 games left and right.

If I know a game has been left outdoors for any period of time, I'll usually pass on it.

I'll also pass on a car if it's been parked on grass for a long time. I'm picky.

I saw that too and thought the same, but then I recoginized the pic. I've seen that post before, so I don't think it's the same game.
thought I had seen that too, but just thought it was might interesting seeing it just hours after the other.

I kid, I kid. But usually on CL pages they offer a "notify me of these kind of sales" program which emails you when something pops up with you're selected keywords. Never used it myself.

What programs are these that you are talking about?

We musn't spread thy evil ways!

I thing craigspal is one. It's just a program that searches through craigslist for keywords etc. you put in. I think it emails you if it gets hits. I've never used it.

or just find them the old fashioned way, without some special program.. takes all the fun out of it.

best way is what someone previously said... network...

its really true about turning down cheap games.. after a while, the games find you.

(seriously, us pac NW guys gotta stick together)

There are other of "these programs" as well (other ways to get quick notifications). :)

And yes, I figure any of "us" that are really looking are using these programs.

And one can have their "minions" looking as well. ;)
