In older version of MAME you could virtually wire the 3rd button, which seem to be completely implemented in the game as "jump modifier", it's quite useful and it makes the game a little better in my opinion. -- Is there a functional pin for this third button on the PCB edge connector?

Well, not officially, but looking at the kit manual I have here (you wanna buy a manual?) there are two unused pins on the wiring harness: pin N, white/pink stripe, right next to the 1P down pin, and pin 15, yellow/pink stripe right next to the video sync.

I'd say to look at the board and see where the other controls go and then trace those two lines and see if they go anywhere similar. If they do, you could try wiring them up and see what happens, but don't be too surprised if MAME is tapping into something that simply isn't implemented in hardware.

Does this "jump modifier" make you use a button to jump instead of having to move the joystick up?

WARNING: They removed this 'feature' from MAME at about .104...

Which is the reason the OP is asking. He's determined to get the 3rd button input put back in the MAME which would require the actual hardware to support it... which he's trying to prove.

If the hardware supports it, it should go back. Why the Warning? Makes the guy look like a scammer when this seems like a perfectly legit reason for someone to register on klov. :)

I'm warning the prior guy who's going to test it out (I assume in MAME) that it's no longer there in the current version... that if he wants to play with the 3rd button he's going to have to bust out an older (pre-.104) version.

You're reading my response wrong.

BTW: How can someone not selling anything be a "scammer"?

Can't tell you about the pin, but even if it does exist it clearly wasn't intended for use on the cabinet. The manual is pretty clear about that. It's obvious that it's supposed to be a two-button game.

And the game is just fine with two buttons ;)

The guy's signature says he owns a Yie-Ar Kung Fu, so you've made a bad assumption. :D
I'll try it on real hardware tonight as well.

Still much easier for him to try it using the MAME cab he has than to try to wire a switch to a pin that hasn't even been proven to be active. That said, I hope he DOES try it on a dedicated cab.... as I'm interested to know if it's actually supported by the current hardware.

The schematics show the hardware as being there (just like the third button on Super Basketball), so I'll be really surprised if it doesn't work. But I'm not going to bet any money until I pull the PCB out and take a look. :)

If you DO pull it out and test it and it DOES work, please document it as I am sure the OP could then submit the proof to MAMEDev to get the 3rd butt re-activated in MAME.

hey hey hey matt..

why are you dicking around with some kung fu bullshit when you have a perfectly good crazy climber board to dick around with?
also, they shirts are NOT a lie, but I am holding yours hostage.

:D Dude, you need to stop by and show me your kung fu skills, then we'll talk about the CC. Bring beer... and the shirt.

Yie Ar Kung Fu rules as is ... you don't need no silly azz third button.

Thanks for the thread though ... I am going to dig out my Yie Ar board tonight! Tonfun is going down!!!

OK, just tried it out. Third button is functional on the real hardware. Makes you jump higher... no big whoop in my opinion. Doesn't seem to add much to the gameplay, which is probably why they ultimately decided to ignore it. And less buttons means easier and cheaper game conversion.
MAME is about emulating the real hardware, so I think it should be enabled. You should be able to choose to use the button or not, just like on the real thing. Not a big deal.
