I am now keeping a pretty large amount of parts on hand. I could up it a little more if local guys wanted to be able to come by and buy parts when 2 days is just too long to wait. I would mark them up for my time and hassle but if you really needed it I would have it.

I keep cap kits for common monitors, power cords, big blues, PS rebuild kits, edge connectors and pins, and more. I am buying most of it from Bob so you know what I am paying. I was thinking that a $12 cap kit I would sell for $20 but figure you would not pay shipping, just tax. So keep me in mind if you need something and are in a bind. I will be like your "7-11" of arcade parts. If you need something, shoot me a pm and see if i have it, chances are I will. I just got in a $500 order and I am making another large one now.

Edit: Maybe this belongs in FS section but I wanted to gauge interest level.

I also stock some flybacks, trackball kits, lamps ( not enough to shop a pin), fuse kits, regulators, mica's and organizing my diodes and more transistors, mounting kits, locks, pot kits for various monitors, filter caps, fuse holders, hots, bridge rectifiers, etc, etc,

One more thing, I can program chips and have a fair amount of blanks. I just got a pocket programmer.

I am too far away to take advantage of it, but the concept is good. I always tend to find out that I need a part on Thursday night...just late enough so I can't get the part from Bob for the weekend. In those cases, I would pay the additional markup just to get the project done over the weekend.

If I lived 30 to 45min away from you I'm sure I'd make the trip on occasion and buy a few things when I needed them. Unfortunately I'm probably 2 hrs away so the drive is not a likely option and even shipping from the bay area to Sacramento cab take almost as long as it takes to get an order direct from Bob.

I would think the success of this idea would probably be based on the number of collectors you have that live an hour drive or closer to you.

That is exactly what I am talking about. Never fails that you need something as the weekend approaches, or you made an order and forgot a key part and then have to wait 2 more days or more. I am usually up late too so people can come by late or whenever.

Pretty cool idea!

I'm about 40-45 minutes from you and that could be very handy.
Jameco is not open on weekends and Fry's does not always have what I need.

You should make a parts webpage of what you have available. There are others in the Bay Area that could take advantage of your offer.

...and yes, you could even set up a vending machine in front of your house (just like the Ipod vending machines at the Airports) and that way when I need a flyback at 2:00am, I won't have to wake you up for it!

Seriously tho, it sounds like you're on to something here!

I was with a friend who needed some tip42 for a Pinbot. It seem that many of the Local store only seem to carry NTE parts. There are some who will refuse to use NTE parts because of cost and reliability issues.

Having the ability of picking up the parts quickly when you need it, Can mean the differences between sitting around and trying to find something else to do or after a quick drive and you can have your arcade machine fixed and ready to go that day when you have time off from work.

It sounds interesting. If you're in your old place, hopefully the HOA doesn't try to evict you for all the foot traffic passing through. :p

What does everyone in the bay area do now for parts since Betson closed their South San Francisco branch office a couple of years ago?

They have a place in Hayward now but it doesn't seem like they have much.

And I am not in the same place that I was before. No one here will care if someone drops by for parts. I am right by Eden Hospital.
