Think I'll visit the Seattle Pinball Museum this summer

I completely applaud these fine folks who opened the Seattle Pinball Museum as part of the city neighborhood restructure program. Awesome to hear them say they plan on staying once their free lease is up.
Not sure they can make a go of it by charging $7 at the door, even though I think that is a totally fair price, but let's see what happens.
I'm planning on going to the Seattle Pinball show this summer and I will definitely visit this museum as part of that trip.

Just too bad pinball has to be relegated to museum status in order to turn a business nowadays.

The museum is pretty awesome. Our local arcade collector group, SMAC, had a get together there last year. They have recently added a PacMan to the collection as well and are looking for a few more classic vids. Additionally they have hosted some competitive pinball league gatherings and recently donated free passes for a fundraiser I am helping with.

I have visited six or seven times and the line-up is always changing. Also, Charlie and Cindy are nice people and great to talk to.

you mean shorty's has competition now? i've really missed seattle since i left there, mainly for the pins all over town and my chair on the front stoop of shorty's. but now there are two locations with 16+ machines? ya'll living in the area gotta be even more than ecstatic now than ever.

Actually, there are soon to be three. A new bar opened up in Tacoma named Dorky's and they are amassing a large collection of vids and pins. When I was there a few weeks ago there were 8 pins and 20 vids with plenty of space to add more.

man, we were in Seattle the past week and I talked the family into a trip to the pinball museum one day. Got on I-5 with my imagination going....then wife checked the website from her phone.....F'n closed the 2 days out of the week we could go on the trip. dag-nab-it.

Shorty's was out because it is 21 and over and that isn't family friendly at all for my needs. kinda lame.

went downtown to the Ferris Wheel instead. At least the Iver's fried Oysters were awesome. There were 2 newer Sterns in the arcade on the pier, didn't even look fun compared to all the redemption games being played around them. ahem.

I am guessing you are talking about the 4th and 5th? For some reason most of the local arcades decided to close those days. I knew about the closures because they posted on their Facebook feeds.

Closing on hollidays seems like a really stupid business decision for an entertainment venue. I am sure they were getting limited foot traffic compared to non-holiday weekends but to disappoint possible visitors whom might not have any other break in their schedule by being closed just seems stupid.

no not the 4th and 5th that would be obvious holiday

they are closed Tues and Weds weekly:
Hours:
Mon, Sun 11 am - 5 pm
Thu 6 pm - 9 pm
Fri 2 pm - 10 pm
Sat 1 pm - 10 pm

Hmm, well I don't pay attention to their hours but it does surprise me that they are closed two days a week. Again, just a poor business plan.

If you are ever back in the area in the future I suggest you check out Dorkys in Tacoma. It is all ages until 9pm and their game selection is the largest around.

Wha... there's a pinball museum in Seattle? I'll have to remember that next time I'm out there visiting family.

I did visit Gameworks last time I was there which was pretty cool, although their pinball selection was horrible (and half the machines were broken).

Not to hijack the thread but are there any other gems in that areas visitors should know about? Anyone know if there are any Japanese style arcades in that area?

Pinball guys should visit:

Shorty's
Seattle Pinball Museum
Dorky's (in Tacoma)

and maybe Replay in Everett.

It is worth pointing out that the Seattle Pinball "Museum" isn't really a museum. However, it differs from the other locations in you pay an entry fee and the games are all set on free play.

Also, if you come to Seattle and want to play a specific machine, or want to see what machines are available at what location you should visit http://www.skill-shot.com/ or pick up a copy of their magazine at one of the gaming locations. They do a very good job of updating their list of pinball machines available at all locations in the Seattle area, I believe they update it monthly.
