What a load of shit - I went to Lowe's and Menards today they quit selling it. Some bullshit law.

They did carry some oil based industrial paint for metals, but I'm not putting that on a cabinet.

Yeah - I can't find any news on it online - I can't believe it myself. I was visiting the Defiance Ohio locations.

That doesn't make sense? They still sell oil based deck stain and such? WTF? Why would they just quit selling oil based PAINT?
You sure it just wasn't some lazy Lowes/Menards employees that didn't want do get paint for you!?? :)

Nah man, 2 places like that - something has happened. I talked to the Menards lady for a while, and I guess Michigan and Indiana still sells it - She said they trucked it all out like a month ago. The spot where it used to be is all latex. Thankfully I'm in NW ohio so it's not that long of a drive to either state.

Thanks for the heads up KJeffery - I'll give Toledo a ring.

It doesn't surprise me. Give it time, it will all go away. My local Home Depot does not sell oil paint. Never has since it was built 3 years ago. I haven't checked our Sherwin Williams yet but I am pretty sure they don't anymore either.

My little brother is a auto paint and body guy. He says due to environmental issues and increasing cost, oil base will be phased out soon. He says the industry is slowly going water based....

Times they are a changin,......
What ever happened to the good ol days when you could buy a nice LEAD based paint....let the kids eat the chips and nothing happened. LOL....

So what are they going to do? Repaint cars with a water based paint?!?!? LOL!!

You can thank the democrats. Pretty soon they will control everything. It's only going to get worse, much, much worse.

My Lowes has very limited bases for mixing oil based. However, Rustoleum has their line of oil based, in quart cans, on the shelf, with some useful colors. The Regal Red was a dead on match for Stargate. Combine that with Rustoleum rattle cans for yellow and black and I did the whole cabinet in oil based.

Here is a link to that product line, but the Lowes here has quarts, but not all of these colors:

just use auto body paint. sprays better, adheres better, and looks better.

Theres 2 flavors sort of speak. acrylic enamel thats alot like oil based paint, spray on and done shines there..

for a better finish use a urethane based basecoat with a clearcoat on top. the clear dries pretty hard and when it dries if you dont like the finish yiou can actually wetsand and buff it out just like a car!
