With the space provided by my new gameroom, I decided to turn my California Christmas trip into an opportunity to grow the collection. The Portland area isn't exactly overwhelmed with classics on Craigslist and I really wanted to make a substantial addition to the line up as soon as possible.
Most of the games came from fellow klov'ers, but a few came from the same guy in Ashland that caddysrule bought his Tapper from. Everyone I dealt with was awesome and the majority of the adventure was pleasantly memorable. However, the trip got off to a rough start. I transported a game from bigsleepy in Eugene, OR to acejedi near Sacramento, CA. While I am quite experienced pulling a trailer in general, I have never pulled a *big* trailer. So unfortunately before I realized that I couldn't ignore the 6x12 uhaul like I can my trailers, I clipped the bumper of bigsleepy's wife's car trying to park on their narrow street. He and his wife were really cool and easy going about it, but of course I felt awful for them and their inconvenience. Insurance takes care of it of course but who wants to deal with that??? Needless to say, my wife didn't feel like getting out and taking pics of bigsleepy and me loading the game.
On top of that, my grand cherokee had a bad "MAP" sensor which went undetected until pulling the trailer. What that meant is I had essentially no power when needing to give it significant gas. Not good when going over the Siskiyous! Transporting a single game going 40 and being passed by everyone including the semi's was a bit embarrassing, but mostly it was worrying because if I had that much trouble with a single game, what would it be like coming back with a full trailer if I couldn't get the problem fixed in CA?
The first game buy happened in Oroville, CA. I bought a much desired Paperboy! Pindork1 was the seller, and it was almost an undiscovered purchase. He was the last guy I contacted about games and only did so because I ran across an old PM from p1899m saying he might have a game to sell. Little did I realize I'd end up with a Paperboy! It needs a little work (side art painted over, controller needed some TLC, some sounds don't work, monitor needs a cap kit), but I couldn't be happier about it.
