After replacing the rollers and bearings on the trackball on my Centipede, it still wasn't real smooth. So I finally purchased the full 2-1/2" trackball replacement from Bob Roberts - which was Happ Controls 56-5500

Man what a 100X differences, this has made. Even before putting it into my Centipede I could tell how much better this one was. So much smoother and made Centipede so much better.

Did it help gameplay itself? Like reaction times. I think I need a new trackball. That or I suck.

YES, it did greatly help game play. Faster reaction, smoother. Plus it doesn't cause a delay or random freezing of your player in Centipede like my other rebuilt one did.

My score almost doubled in Centipede tonight.

I'm happy!

the random freezing was because most likely the new bearings are so tight that its easier for the trackball to slide on the roller than it is to spin the roller. If the bearings are loosened up with the 'drill method', it should perform as well as the new trackball.

For this reason, when rebuilding a trackball, as long as the bearings are not bad, its best to just replace the rollers.
