There's a Black Widow in the Garage!

Thanks osver. You have very good tast in games my friend. I think BW is really underrated and gets overshadowed by Robotron, though I've noticed the interest in this game seems to be increasing. It's a little slower paced but gets super, super intense on the higher levels...My high score is in the 450k range. I love the exploding proximity bugs or whatever they are called as well as the rocket bugs. That's cool there was one at the the NW show, was that the first time you had a chance to play it?

Tom

Yeah, we've tried to get it for the show the past two years, but it didn't make it until this time. So, yeah, while I've wanted to play one for years, this was my first time seeing one in person. I think I got up to level/wave 24 or so on one of my plays, but don't remember the score.

The hardest part for me is my partial color-blindness, so as those red/green lines appear that you can only walk through one direction I can't tell which is which. I lost a few lives to that.

I played with the guy who brought it (mrsell on KLOV), and he showed me a few tips I hadn't figured out on my own - pushing off the web could be done in the middle, not just the outside, etc.

Fantastic Black Widow, congrats! That is one game I'm still hunting for, so if anyone in the Chicago area has a nice one...well, you know... :D

Congrats Tom. I never played the game before playing that one. I instantly loved it; I'm a big fan of the SmashTV/Robotron control style.

That cabinet a beauty, perfect just like all the rest.

Very nice pickup, and a super fun game!

I recently picked up a minty Black Widow also, this is a rare one to find in this condition, congrats!

Here's mine:

I digress (nice BW BTW)... What's up with your carpet? Did you make area rugs?

My carpet is an area rug over my existing carpet, and it comes up a little short and you can only see it in that one section. The squares you see near the BW game were the dealer samples I got :) I'm not worried about it, though, it will be covered up in a few weeks with my new game layout. BTW, the carpet company sells this carpet in several area rug sizes just in case you don't want to do a permanent install for some reason.

Which carpet company would that be? Do they do mail orders as well or just local?

Thanks,
Greg

Just to show the opposite end of the spectrum, here's the one Rick just turned up for me a couple weeks ago. Nice deal... happy as hell to have one... but there was much that needed to be done before I could play it:

1. Replace monitor (only blue, can't adjust intensity)
2. Replace PCB (it was missing)
3. Replace ARII (maybe this wasn't bad after all - see #4)
4. Replace transformer assembly (this allowed game to actually fire up)
5. Marquee bulb was burnt out and the starter was also bad
6. Replaced coin door assembly.

Thank goodness I had a Space Duel standing by as my ZVG candidate so I had these parts handy. Now I can fix each of them (monitor, ARII, transformer assy) to return to SD while I still play BW!
