I see everyone calling this cabinet a "Dynamo Z-back". But mine does not say "Dynamo" on it anywhere, just "3-KOAM, INC". And according to this 3-Koam catalog at the flyer archive...

...it's called an "angle cabinet", not a Z-back. So, it appears that there's no such thing as a "Dynamo Z-back" at all, only a "3-Koam angle cabinet". Do any of you have one with a Dynamo label?

Now, there's this thing-

Which is smaller and has a flat top, but has a similar shape. Could this be a Dynamo cabinet, called a Z-Back? If anybody has one of these, is there a manufacturing label on it?

So many threads on this topic...short version:

- 3Koam and Dynamo are not the same company

- Z-Back = 3Koam

- Until recently, it was a common misunderstanding to think 3Koam/Z-Backs were Dynamos. The truth is, Dynamo has zip, zilch, nada to do with Z-Backs or 3Koam.

- "Z-Back" was a name coined in the 90's and just stuck. Sort of like calling the big blue Capcom cabinets...well..."Big Blues".

- That flatter version is a Z-clone. We found a bunch in a Fresno warehouse and they are not 3Koam. IIRC, no one knows who created those. We originally thought they were a locally made, specially ordered line for that op...but in the last year they have popped up all over the country.

The cab pictured below is an "Angled Cab" from the Angle Cab company. They had slide out drawers with slide out wood control panels and are also supposed to have a mechanism inside for easy monitor rotation. In my opinion though these aren't as nice to look at as the "Z-Backs" they are superior. I say this becuase they are made out of solid wood with melamine sides plus have all the features I previously mentioned. I think they might even pre-date the Z Backs.

What is the mechanism for rotating you refer to? I have one of those cabinets but I have never found much information about them.

Just in case people were curious. 3-Koam built all of the dedicated wood US Neo Geo cabs for SNK.

I believe those were made specifically for United Artists Theater Amusements back when United Artists operated their own games at their theaters.

These cabs are supposed to have a mechanism inside so you can rotate the monitor. These are really supposed to be some universal, easily converted cabs.

Yeah, it has tags. It's just like the red one pictured in the OP. I'll try to get pics, but it's in the lineup and it's a bastard to get inside of...

I'd be interested to see this, too. I was of the impression that all z backs were 3 Koam, same as Sosage.

Trey picked up a converted Children of the Atom on Sunday in a cab with the notch out of the back, but the top is flat. Unfortunately I didn't get a good shot of it side on.

The monitor has flanges, and slide bars screwed into it's frame. From this you can line it up with these pipe fittings and slide the bars out and lock it in. It's a two man job almost to get it...

Vert or horizontal, the wood bezel is a square so it works out.

Yes, it's an "angled cab company" cab... R3LL1K sent me the manual as I have 3 of these unbadged cabs. He is 100% correct on this.

Yes 3KOAM of Fremont CA built the Neo Geo cabs, one variant of the Z-back, and the Big Blue cabs for Capcom and others.

WISE FROM YOUR GWAVE!
Here's a pic of the mechanism.

Been sitting on it for five years now, was looking for a tri sync 25" monitor for it.
This could've been the Lord of the rings cab, one cab to rule them all.
The cp is just a piece of wood that can easily be made into anything, a race car game, mame, multicade vertical / horizontial. Too bad.

No luck. Also needs a bezel and glass, haven't found those either, guess you'd just need to cut/ paint a piece of wood and glass 23x23.
