The unofficial "What game are you absolutely obsessed with right now?"thread...

I mean pattern memorization, sheets of paper, markings on the bezel, listening to the background music, waking up in the morning determined to master, obsession! For me it is none other than the infamous "Donkey Kong Jr." this arcade classic has eluded gamers since it's inception in 1982, however I find it a game that as hard as it may be, is quite enjoyable! It is one of the few games that I do not find frustrating, but intriguing. I'm up to level 8. I'm not going to set out to get a world record ( that creates a distraction ) but I'd love to see where I end up in my quest to master DK Jr.......
What are you obsessed with?

Still trying to achieve 200k on Ms. Pac, obsessed with beating Simpsons on one credit (bucket list), Super Street Fighter II Turbo (as always). Kind of getting into Captain America and the Avengers (I like that it shows how many credits you used) and TMNT as well for that one credit challenge, but they're a lot different than Simpsons so it's hard.

I was writing notes on kombos and AI patterns in Mortal Kombat II in an attempt to beat it on one quarter before my machine went down. Now I can feel my skills deteriorating. >_>

Twin Cobra. One player, one quarter. No charting, diagrams, syllogisms to compile; just knowing what color weapon to get when. I do have notes on a sheet of notebook paper beside the machine. I've made Level 8 before dying (where dying once is dying).

Well Berzerk was one of mine, but since I got 199,860 without a pattern in slow bullets, I haven't played it much since.

My newest obsession would be a mixture of Frenzy and Missile Command. Doing much better at Frenzy, looking to find time so I can break 1,000,000 in it.

I was obsessed with Mortal Kombat 4 for a while.. Beat the game without losing a round with almost every character on the hardest tower with the machine difficulty set to very hard... Now I'm occasionally trying to beat Pac-Mania (got to the final level (23) once... trying to get there again so I can beat it. but I'm lazy so I don't play much at all). I recently beat the original Metroid 30+ times trying to master a speed run. I average that game in 45 minutes or so. And right now I'm obsessed with monitor repair. Working on rebuilding a couple chassis that was used to rape parts from.

Trying to find a Robotron, Stargate, Joust or Defender (with clean side art) to buy....

..also finishing up the restoration on Radar Scope #19.

Lately with me it has been Joust.

I had been collecting up parts to put together my jRok Multi-Williams and one day I came home with a decent Joust panel. A couple days later I slapped it on my ugly donor Robotron cabinet and set up the jRok board to boot straight to Joust and have been playing it daily ever since.

I had never played much Joust on real machines. I have played it so extensively in console versions and on emulator cabinets that I normally pass it up when I see one in someone's collection in favor of checking out their vectors or more obscure titles. It is just a totally different experience with the leaf button and tiny sticks then what I had been getting playing it using other methods.

Getting to Level 23 on Pac-Mania is insane.

Trying to find a Sarge upright and I guess build me an Eliminator 4p island from scratch.

whoa, I'm a 13,000 berzerk player, I'd love to see a little video of your gameplay.

For me, it's Lunar Rescue.

Finally got it running in top shape. I don't really have to mark the bezel or glass, but I do it all in my head.

A dedicated Lunar Rescue doesn't have consistent "patterns". The game reacts to your progress throughout the levels, your altitude, and horizontal position compared to the ground. A lot of random events and certain glitches that are typical of early Taito games really stir it up.

My highest score on Lunar Rescue is exactly 38,000 and rising! I have two photos and one witness as proof. It's an odd score to get. I reached level 9.

Galaga....been looking for one since the beginning of thus hobby. But it's always either available and I don't have the money, or not available when I am looking. Also now I am getting the pinball itch again. Want either a tron or LOTR pin. Leaning more towards the LOTR. And with my last restoration almost complete, hoping to use that to get one!

Nice, that's pretty impressive. Now how about doing that with your MKII? ;) I was like that with the N64 port of MK4 for a while, but that's comparing apples to oranges really.

Since I've gotten some time to play it a bit more I've been trying to figure out the best combos and ways to maneuver in Die Hard to last the longest on one credit. It's a pretty good method since I'm not able to play very long in my freezing garage. :D
