So with the help of a friend, my space invaders part II is running! Yes, and mine is the Taito cocktail. I can't be the only one with a running yet beat as hell cocktail. (Space invaders or otherwise).

What I really wanted to brag about is my sweet 2060 score! That's my high so far.

My real question is: Where did my music go? Mine runs, and you can hear laser shots. But the jaws music is just gone. Which is like the whole reason to own a space invaders. I kid, because I think the no music on mine make it easier to play.

Btw: this was a 5 amp fuse fix. The one joystick is not working right. Otherwise after sitting for like 10 years, bang it fired right up.

Follow up: are there any upgrades or rom swaps for these boards to make them multi?

Before messing with the sound try using that too, the multigame board eliminates all the ROM sockets, and although the sound is likely dealt with elsewhere, one of these little boards made my fully non-working boardset boot up and play, although that just means it had ROM/socket problems, it will not fix other problems for you, but it does have a self-test built in for your board! Very handy.

I saw that one kit. My concern is mine is a taito stack. So I wasn't sure about the midway board.

Is it the actual 3 board stack, or the tailto version of the L-shaped set? The L-shaped is identical to Midway (same thing just soldered wires) so it would take the multi. I'm not sure if the multi works on the taito boardset, but "technically", its very close if not identical in circuitry.

Chances are for sound you need to swamp the LM3900 op-amps, prob more than one most likely.

Mine is The stack of boards. I might order it for funzies. But this hobby is bleeding me dry.

Each sound has it's own volume pot, so that's the first thing to check.
The multi kit works fine on the Taito stack (there's even a Taito version of the ROM for it), but it doesn't physically fit with the board spacing of the original PCB holder, so a little custom work is needed.

Dude thank you I will check the pots when I get home. Are you saying if I add the kit the door or tabletop won't close properly? Or is it a matter of it being in the middle of the stack sandwich ?

Update - I've got thump thump thump! Technically the game is playable and running. Except my player 2 joystick is janky. I'm sure it's an easy fix. Just have to crawl around on the ground to open the panel and fix it.

I love the color monitor. It's very tempting to add some other board.

I am having a "pop" sound through the speaker. On occasion. Though reading online apparently the only fix is to replace every cap and resister on the audio part of the board and even then it only " may" fix it. No guarantees. I think I will fix the joystick and leave it be. Just nice to have one of the original old school games running and people already have started playing it in my garage.
