So, as many of you may know, i picked up this space invaders a few weeks ago for $100 with the intention to "flip it". wink wink. anyways, got a good deal on it cause the guy couldn't get it to turn on (read later) and the monitor was dead.

Got it home and the transformer on the chassis was smoked. and the game was randomly resetting and not working all the time. Got a spare chassis from Dave (arcrevival) to take the transformer from, and just about killed the new transformer when i fired it up. however, i got a pic, so i could confirm the boards worked at that point. Turns out I had a short on the chassis that was backfeeding the output side of the transformer with voltage and frying it. So, being that while there may be a lot of v1001 chassis around however they are hard to find, I decided to put in a color mod.

Read up on the color mod on brentradio's site. And, it is really easy to do; well the wiring portion is at least... I picked up a g07 with pacman burn from jon exidy, and put that in. I ended up having to cut another inch or two off the center 'monitor neck' hole in the piece of wood under the monitor with a jigsaw as the g07 tube is longer, but that worked. Plugged that in and got a rolling nice picture with positive sync and a distorted but non rolling pic with negative sync.

After messing around with the g07, replacing pots, reflowing solder and whatnot, I got pretty fed up. Dave Okert, (and someone else) suggested trying the monitor on another game to see if it was the monitor or what. Well, the monitor worked in my pac. And, the Vision Pro in my pac worked perfectly in the Space Invaders. So, a swap was proposed.

This swap was pretty easy at this point, as the cab was already re-wired for a color monitor and setup, so it really didn't take long. Probably took longer to swap the tubes and frames than put them in.

After that, I had a perfect but backwards pic. Needed to swap the yoke wiring. Well, for all of you out there that didn't read my other posts, Vision Pro yoke wiring is NOT the same as g07. So, I smoked a resistor and blew a small hole in the vertical deflection output IC. Replaced those parts and a couple transistors to be safe, and we were back in business. Swapped the right yoke wires this time and I have a beautiful running SI now. Got the mess of tools and everything cleaned up and now it sits next to my pinball. Here's a few pics...

Great job - next time its open, can you post a picture of the SI motherboard where you made the changes?

Looks good.....curious, what was shorted?...

here's a link to a pic from another klover in a different thread. mine is setup the same way.

the wire soldered to the resistor closest to the outside of the board is the sync. the wire soldered to the inside resistor goes to the RGB signal.
