The Simpsons pinball party or data east?

Ford or Ferrari ... which would you rather own... ?

That's pretty much the same comparison.

TSPP is regarded by many as one of the best pins ever .

I will even go as far as stating the no other games
even comes close to offering as deep a ruleset as TSPP.

LOTR also has a pretty Deep Ruleset,
but I've destroyed the ring countless times
and done Valinor several times.

...but I've NEVER completed the TSPP Wizard mode in 5 years of trying...

I'd even be curious to know who on this board has actually achieved this.

I'm guessing less than 5 people...

If money is an issue, it's worth saving up for a TSPP.
If not, why even ask ... ?

;-)

TSPP is fun, deep, and a beautiful game they you will probably never see everything there is to see in the game. The Simpson on DE will have you nuts within a weak on "Eat my Shorts" alone.

TSPP is the best pinball machine ever made as of now (08.23.2012)

The playfield design is brilliant.

The software is flawless.

The integration with the theme is perfectly done.

The game has amazing flow.

The scoring is incredibly well balanced.

There are thousands of ways to play the game.

The ruleset is the deepest in all of pinball.

The game is fun for both novice and expert players.

No other game comes close.

To hear any pinball enthusiast suggest the game is not that great is like hearing a basketball player say Michael Jordan sucks, or a guitarist call Stevie Ray Vaughn a hack. You quite simply cannot take them seriously. The game is that good. It's so good, it makes other pinball machines seem half-done.

What's really mind-boggling is that the company that produced this game, which was more successful for them than any other game they've ever run in decades, which was run in more than six different production runs over several years, has never seemed to give a damn or cared whether they re-create such greatness. Even today, Stern seems completely un-interested in making games of that type of caliber. It was like it was a fluke.

Apples to oranges. There is a reason for the price difference. I'd consider the DE Simpsons a decent game that gets tiring after a short while, while TSPP is on my dream list. If you can afford TSPP, get that one. If not, there are better pins for the price of a DE. But if you have to buy a Simpsons related pin, and that's the only one in your budget, do it. Just don't plan on getting a lot of plan out of it, and plan on selling it rather quickly.

I'm the odd-man out on this.

I have a DE Simpsons, which I will never sell. I've played TSPP numerous times and... It's pretty cool, but I still prefer the DE one much more. TSPP just seems too cheap, plastic-y and too cluttered.

For me, DE Simpsons without a doubt. What I would suggest is that you play BOTH of the machines and see which one you prefer. You can have the majority here say that one is superior over the other, but are they the ones spending the money? Are they the ones guaranteeing your enjoyment? Nope. Just because most say a machine is awesome doesn't mean that all will enjoy it as much.

(Yeah, I've also been flamed because my opinion of Twilight Zone and Medievel Madness is different than the majority. Oh well... To each his own.)

I think this is the only part where I might disagree, but it's an awesome game and I wish I had one.

Regarding flow - TSPP doesn't have "Steve Ritchie flow" ...but it has an organic logic flow to it. Even though some shots result in a pause, the ball is going to go somewhere where you can continue a combo or a series of shots...this to this to this to this. For instance, you can shoot the left loop to upper flipper OR you can shoot the Otto shot...yes it stops, but then it goes to the upper flipper, which you can shoot to the Treehouse ramp. It stops, but then pops up to the upper playfield where you can shoot the TV (and start a mode). Stops...then shoot to the couch ramp to lock a ball. So, yeah there are pauses there, but its still got set-ups and combos!

As for the question...yeah, TSPP blows DE Simps out of the water. DE Simps is not only a very simplistic game, but for Simpsons fans - it's only based on the first season. TSPP was made in 2003 and has characters and references from over a decade worth of Simpsons.

Sadly however, Stern didn't have enough money to hire all the voice actors,
so some of the key voices are missing (Marge, Lisa, Mr. Burns, Smithers... ).

I've actually figured out how to modify the sound eproms
to include new voices, but the work involved is incredibly time-consuming,
... and time is something I don't have much in spare...

It still works though, and all the voices are pretty relevant to what's going on. Are Marge and Lisa really gonna have anything that funny to say? ;) There are so many characters in the game...it's pretty robust:

Lets see..

Castellaneta characters:
Homer
Grandpa
Barney
Itchy
Kodos
Krusty
Nerdy Teen
Mayor Quimby
Groundskeeper Willie
Hans Moleman (I think he's in there)

Azaria characters:
Moe
Duffman
Apu
Comic Book Guy
Disco Stu
Cletus
Snake
Prof. Frink
Capt McCallister
Chief Wiggum
Dr. Nick (I think he's in there)
Bumblebee Man (I think he's in there)

Cartwright characters:
Bart
Nelson
Todd Flanders
Ralph Wiggum
Kearney the bully

True, but they don't have Harry Shearer
who voices...

Mr. Burns
Waylon Smithers
Ned Flanders
Principal Skinner
Otto
Reverend Lovejoy
Dr Hibbert
Kent Brockman
Jasper
Lenny
Eddie (the policeman)
Rainier Wolfcastle (McBain)
Scratchy
Kang
Mr. Bouvier (Marge's father)
Dr. Marvin Monroe
Herman
Mr. Largo
Marty (from KBBL)
Dr Loren J Pryor
Jebediah Springfield
Judge Snyder
Sanjay (Apu's brother)

I find Mr. Burns is the biggest voice missing.
Just think of how many times you could have "EEEEX-CELLENT" in there. ;-)
(...or "Release the hounds" for a multiball )

The Otto Loop would have been nice to have as a voice call too...

But you're right, they do have 3/4 of the major characters...

Steph

They have one at my local Regal theater. Some kids scratched up the glass though.

You should go to the theater and demand that they release that poor machine to you so that you may care for it in a more home use only environment!

As a huge simpsons fan, I say get both machines and then decide. They are both fun and both have their moment in simpsons history. Someday I plan to have them side by side.

Should I play devil's advocate and call bias on everyone here? ;)

Seriously though, between the two Simpsons games, DE Simpsons is a total joke by comparison. It's also half the cost or less, so you get what you pay for in this case...

Valinor multiple times? Must be nice. I had my best game ever the other night, on 5 ball, had all gifts lit and collected, completed two towers, good progression on the other two, was about to start There and Back Again, and drained picking up the rings to play TABA. Ended with 198 million. Suck.
