The Simpsons get lots of love

I also played a Simpsons at a bowling alley back in 91,92 ish. The whole concept of the Simpsons was pretty new yet. There is one at a local bowling alley. I was going to play it on Thursday but it wasn't working. Had to play Addams Family pinball instead. Oh darn.

There is a little hole in the wall taco shop about 10 mins from me that has a TAF. I play it every time I go in there. Fun pin, for sure.

I have a simpsons as a switchable add-on in my gauntlet machine. My kids couldn't care less about gauntlet and ONLY want to play simpsons. They love it!

And in answer to the question of how a JAMMA game could be switchable in a dedicated gauntlet, I rescued the cab from a hack and opted to keep it JAMMA and made a JAMMA converter for the boards for situations just like this, so I can swap out or add on some of the many great JAMMA games out there...

Honestly, I'm from the old fuck generation that grew up with dedicated machines but just don't get the snobbery and attitude that JAMMA games are somehow inferior. There are MANY JAMMA games I'd play 100 times before some of the other stuff. ...really guys, it's just a wiring scheme!

Jamma, for me, means the beginning of a lack of originality and downfall from the classics 'era'.

I just enjoy the way everything was more cowboy when vids around the pac-man reign was going on.

I do play alot of Jamma shooters.. in mame, I just don't want them in my classics arcade.

Yep, I agree. Get yourself a jpac, ArcadeVGA and a cheap computer and play all those 4-player jamma games on there.

I will agree that originality suffered in some ways, but the JAMMA era has its own rightful place in the history of arcades. The "classic" era of ops spending tons of money on new machines was over and JAMMA allowed them to take those games that were basically worthless and turn them into something profitable. I don't see it as a downfall at all. JAMMA was introduced around 1985 or so and by then the classic era was over. It's not like everything was great until JAMMA came along and then it crashed the industry. Now I'm not at all advocating all of the horrible conversions done to classic era games, but at least they weren't sent to the landfill before any of us were able to save them. My collection is close to 50/50 in terms of "classic" era games vs JAMMA. I love playing and collecting the classics, but my heart will always be with the JAMMA era because that's what I grew up with.

Back on the topic of "The Simpsons".....here's the resto I did last year of one that had been converted to a Neo Geo type setup with marble contact paper. I don't think the restoration showcase section gets as much traffic so Jow please excuse me whoring out more pics of my cab. ;) I got the art from Gameongrafix and it turned out damn nice.

I followed that resto and loved it. I'd love a Konami cab w/ a switcher for Simpsons and my TMNT PCB.

I can smell the dust on your clothes, the icy hot lathered onto your creeky joints and the Werther Originals candy in your pockets from here.

Pre-Jamma wasn't exactly a paradise of originality. Or am I the only one that noticed all the different variations on the Pac-Man/Space Invaders formula?

+1 to bones3010, supergunguru and sosage.

Games are games, regardless of era. It's pretty elitist to say one era was better than another. I think each one has its own noteworthy games.

For one to say otherwise, he probably didn't give an era the light of day. Ex. Older gentlemen that don't get SFII or a game with more than 1 button so it's automatically a bad game in their minds.

I'm thankful I was born between the Golden and JAMMA eras so I've learned to appreciate both.

But to stay on topic... :)

Turtles in Time was my favorite 4P Konami game. Simpsons and Sunset Riders after that.

Great game! I used to love all those games like that BITD. Simpsons, TMNT, etc. Fun stuff. Put some shirts on those kids. :)

Put some shirts on those kids. :)

Keeping t shirts on toddlers in the summertime is pointless. One of them takes their shirt off and the other one has to follow suit. Should I have put NSFW in the thread title?
