The self-inflicted price explosion of KLOV

If you blow up the head gaskets in your cars that transport your arcade machines doesn't that cost add to your arcade hobby? Laughs

Well damn, then that means I can add the cost of broken fingers and stitches to my arcade costs. Maybe there is a tax write off in here somewhere!

Example:
You paying $900 to ship an empty cab across the country instead of hooking up someone who's local.

Ha! I regularly post 3rd party ads and auctions for people to go after, even when they are local to me, have helped many people pick up things, given away whole projects to local KLOV guys. That Bubbles cabinet sat in Maryland for 15 years without anyone 'local' doing anything with it. So yes, if someone reaches out to me and offers it for free because they know I am looking for it, I'm definitely going to take them up on that offer and eat the shipping costs.

Go eat bowl of dick soup you sanctimonious troll.

Wasn't expecting to scroll through KLOV today and all of sudden reminisce about my first NEW car purchase.

It's simply the best vehicle ever created, in my warped eyes.

@bobbyb13 gets a pass on his green Honda Element "Kermit," it's basically Honda's version of the toaster. And I love Hondas as well.

You missed the point, clown.
Paying $900 to ship a cabinet doesn't make a cabinet worth $900 more.

...but thanks for putting your (lack of) character on display for all to see.

Same.

FirstGen Scion xBs, on the other hand...

I agree with this statement!!! My RS1XB still running strong and its hauled its fair share of arcade cabs over the years with ease!!! XB little on the outside big on the inside!!!

Apart from the cost of some very rare complete machines it seems like on a whole the prices through the community here are lower than elsewhere, and those items come from generally more trustworthy and helpful sellers and they would be components that are in better shape too.

If you want something that doesn't show up frequently and/or you want something immediately then plan to pay more just like anything anywhere else.

Time and place are everything.
I agree that prices on some games are going down. It seems like some parts are higher, but overall games are not. Even at multiple auctions in 2025, many prices were down.

You see this in a lot of hobbies. Everybody has $200 for a part, but not $2k for something complete. So parts tend to not sink as much.

Plus I have found that when hobby times get hard (cars or arcades) people star unloading projects they will never complete.

Or part them out, for the exact reason you stated.

I have a complete Cisco Heat in the pole barn that plays great, just turned it on a few weeks ago.

Probably could get more for the WG4900 & game boards that's in it than the game as a whole.

Just to clarify, I do not advocate parting out working games, hence why I still have a working Cisco Heat in my pole barn for the last 10 years....

That's why junkyards exist. Just get the parts you need, at a higher per piece cost. I've done it many times... I paid more for a MP joystick than I did for a complete working MP game, just because I needed that one part... Lol!

I agree parts hold value better than complete games. With that said, I think people just don't have discretionary money like they used to. My 5+ skids of parts are not moving no matter how low I try to sell them for. I'll keep trying though, now that retirement starts in 2026.

The shipping cost, or effort to get a whole game, sometimes several hours away likely impacts whole game vs part prices disproportionately as well. Whole cabinets usually have at least a part or two that aren't that great as well. When they're perfect they're expensive.

I like bringing a game back but you have to be smart about projects as the overall cost can add up quickly (or over several years).

And here in lies the real truth and value of KLOV.

Knowing the correct person to contact for that part or repair service makes all the difference in this hobby IMHO.
