I just got home with this so I haven't had time to look it over a whole lot.

It works 100%.

I don't know why there is a stereo inside the cabinet. It does work.

The metal plate attached to the back of the game says Missile Command and from all indications this is an original Sega Missile Command, which as was discussed in another thread, is a very rare game.

The side art was kind of weird on this game, and it appears to be covering up the art from another game. Not sure what game that is. It seems possible that in the first batch of these games made they used up some old cabinets.

If this game was made for Japanese use only, I wonder why the coin slot says it costs 2x25 cents. I wonder if this was the first videogame that cost more than a quarter.

The previous owner had it for 12 years and before that it was in a relative's bar for many years.

Here's some pics:

Not bad. Maybe if you stand it upright (instead of laying it on it's side) it'll look even better....

maybe this cab was originally used on a U.S. military base in Japan and it migrated to the U.S. at some point. or could 2x25 be referring to the price in Yen?

This is actually really interesting. The Japanese book I have shows that same piece of side art sticking out in that area from under the Missile Command artwork as yours (looks like conversions from unsold Head-On cabinets, see the artwork on the cabinet here http://arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=3817&image=3)

The way the cockpit is shown, it seems like the back portion would line up to cover the angled portion of the Head-On artwork poking through, so your machine might have been a cockpit at some point?

That's really cool. I will definitely make a pretty good conversation piece. I'd be interested to see if it is an Atari or Sega board also if there are any differences at all in game play.

Cool pics thanks for posting those! :D

One thing I did notice was that at the end of the game it does not say "THE END".

I will take a look at the board itself and report back as to what it says.

If it is an Atari board it will only say "THE END" if you did not score enough points to get on the board....nice score by the way. I love the artwork on the bezel.

I cleaned out my garage today and took the back door off this game and started to poke around.

The main board is definitely not an Atari board, although the gameplay is clearly Atari Missile Command. The board is clearly marked as "Sega". There are a number of white ROM chips on it. Some of the instructions inside the cabinet are hand written and overall the layout of the electronics is pretty strange. Doesn't look like a thing has been done to it, ever, with the exception of a Yorx stereo from the 1980s being stuck inside the cabinet and the audio being bypassed into it. Perhaps there was an audio issue at some point and the stereo was installed as a fix.

Pretty interesting.
