Im a fan of all things video games with my roots starting from the arcade or course. Consoles hold a dear place in my heart also and especially quirky japanese games. My career Was heavily affected by my love of controls and haven even spent time working along side some former Atari arcade folks known for custom hardware for their games and always marrying hardware to the software.
Theres a thread on here about games that should have had an arcade release but never did. Um jammer Lammy had a release but it really didnt do well. i think that rhe placement of the buttons didnt go well with the theme. its difficulty also probably affected the arcad release as well. I had seen someone build a LCD screen Parappa into a shelled out Pole Position and I think they did it all wrong with probably a PlayStation classic and big buttons.
At E3 in the 90s I even got this snapshot.
Im a big fan of this game and think it really has the charm to get people interested in playing it as an arcade game. My idea was to marry the game to a Beatmania style layout. I hacked a premium Beatmania panel into an arcade running to a Pandora dirrectly booting to a Parappa ROM.
Today I started building a custom panel. The bottom row are the face buttons and Parappa uses L1 and R1 which are obviously the black keys. In this mock up I had not finished laying un some PlayStation symbols stickers inside of the button keys.

I still need to add a joystick for navigation.
I have my Marquee and CPO at the printers.
Im hoping to complete this build for CAX next month. I should have enough time to tube swap this tired monitor. Maybe Someday I will paint the machine a complimentary color and do some side art.
