The real reason for MMAO threads (an opinion)

I'm not taking this personally but for my own sake, I have the Narc as a MMAO thread.

Thou I don't know the real value of it as the research I've done shows a wide range of prices in a wide range of conditions.

Yes in my thread it has a "baseline" of where I think it should be for the condition it is in, but I could be way off. Thats why it's in a MMAO and i'm accepting anything reasonable on it. I just need to get some extra cash in my pocket to cover the repair costs on my car.

If you have an idea on price and what you need for (car) repairs, but won't post a price, I think he is talking about you. ;) @ the OP: I am with you. I simply skip over the MMAO ones unless it is something I can get nowhere else.

I agree. I apologize for the thread, I was sorta pissed when the reply I received from the seller started with "Is that a joke? Would you fix my board for $15 shipped?" when he simply could have said "Sorry, I value it higher then that".

I deserve the facepalm, I admit it :)

Again, sorry for wasting your time folks.

I have an idea on one part of the car, and the "baseline" is near that. Thou it could be something else totally different and I may of just wasted money on a useless part. Still I'd rather just let someone make me an offer and get it for probably less then its worth if they are willing to come take it away. I'm not going to sit here and place a steady price on something and then sit around forever to sell it. I'd rather let someone have a good deal and be done with it.

If you're going to do a MMAO realize you're opening yourself up to lowballs. Don't get pissy about it because you essentially invited it. Just politely say "no thanks". What's so hard about that? If you can't even define your own price, how is someone else supposed to know what will offend you? Maybe you're anxious to unload something and are prepared to let it go dirt cheap. Who knows?

Agreed. +1

I haven't had one offer yet, so hell a lowball offer from someone serious enough to buy it, would be a step up... I knew what I was getting into making the thread and that's ok with me.

I find that most folks do have a price/ballpark in there head, when im responding to CL for instance i ask the guy how much he had in mind and 100% of the times he has an answer.

I believe that posting a MMAO relieves you of the right to take offense to any offers tendered. I also can say, buying and selling stuff my entire adult life, I have never once received an offer to a "MMAO" type ad that was above market price. You simply can't expect to get retail when you're asking your customer to name their price. All you really can hope for is an offer from someone not looking for a price with enough meat on the bone left to make it a profitable resale transaction.

I have no issue making offers to MMAOs at a fraction of what I see the item routinely fetch on eBay; if you wanted that value, you would have listed it there, if there is a collector that can use it here, he or she will likely offer more than 30% of its value anyhow.

Just my 0.02
