The "real" Lost Highway Emergency Line....

Thanks to Phet and some of the other guys here on klov for inspiring me to do a little bit more with that old bakelite phone other than just hang it on the wall.

I took some wood from an old truck bed(same wood I used for the crossbeams on my utility poles) and made "The Lost Highway Emergency Booth". The theory is, if you were lost and in need of some protection from the UFO's, you'd get on the phone and dial up the "Missile Command" in hopes they could help you.

I made the booth to look kind of rickety, like its been there for a LONG time. I secured it to the back wall, so its good and stable, though.

I added some cool things like that "eye", which is actually a shrinkwrap machine eye; but to me it looks like a military camera. Also, the old loudspeaker, which does work; and I plan to hook it up to a stereo so I can "broadcast" over it.

I don't know if I'll keep the downed pilot in there permanently or not. Thought it would be nice to add him into the photo-mix.

I'm not done with the booth. I need to finish the backdrop of flyers, and also put in a header; maybe it will simply say "emergency line", and I'll add a strobe light for some creepy lighting effects. Here's one pic, the rest are on my photobucket page.....

Any ideas for the header are sure welcome.....

Love the flyers. I think it's good to keep him in there until you get the rest of the back wall covered, then maybe remove him? I wonder if you could get some cheap plexi or something that you can break and get a spider web appearance with? Might have a neat effect...

Yeah, I did think about that; it would be nice to have SOME remnants of the "glass" that maybe would've been part of the booth. It definitely would add a needed effect. I'm going to check the local recycling shop to see if I can get some plexi cheap.....

Your gameroom has gotta be one of my all time favs. Its got a crazy vibe to it. Very cool.

I'm looking for FREE stuff Stephen! If you can find me a free donkey kong, I'll gladly find a spot lol

Remember that Tron that was given away just 10 miles from where I live? We are talking TRON. One of the most expensive games out there. Never say never because you may at least find a good deal on one.

I do remember you telling me about that. Reminds me a little bit of finding my Sea Wolf at a garage sale for $60....

Looks good John, I like it alot! I can't wait to see it at your next party-- which is when?

Awesome job John. Love it. Yeah, you need to add some plexi or glass to that bad boy for sure. I wish I lived closer, I'd knock you out a light-up header in no time.

Right on Phet. Thanks. Yeah, the header with a strobe light(with a red lens) should top it off nicely. I need to finish the flyers too so those bright white cabinet doors are covered.....
