Picked up this pcb on eBay for 50 plus shipping. Once I got the board i did an inspection and observed some damage on a surface mounted chip. I'm not at all familiar with these kind of componets. Is there a repacement for this chip (see photo) or can I get it from a donor board? I did a Google search and didn't find anything but my search skills are weak. The board boots to garbage on the scene. Also, this repair might be out of my skill set, does someone want to take a crack at it. Thanks for all your help.

yes that would depened on your skill set and tools on hand
first and foremost donot power that board back up for any reason
i can see about 5 shorts through your uploaded pic
tools and skill set needed
a dental pick the straight and very sharp are best
a magifiened light (u need 2 free hands here)
alot of patiance remeber u are working with a quad flat pack
now with the light over your ic
bend each and every pin back a straight a possiable
atleast so they are not shorting
also make sure as to not snap them from the chip
once this is done and u are sure all pins are right ?
power board back up and see what you get ?
if it is still weird ? then replace chip

DRL40 is a background tilemap generator. Unfortunately... it's used on relatively few games, most of which are quite rare now. Shackled, Breywood, Gondomania and maybe Karnov/Chelnov/Wonder Planet (don't have any of the anymore to check).

The worse news is I suspect this board has other faults too as I don't think it should look like that even with shorted/broken pins. I believe the game should still run even if this chip was completely smashed (shorted pins shouldn't stop this either as I think the data and address bus is isolated from the cpu behind other ttl). And even worse it looks like some rust corrosion is there, which can be pretty fatal to the very thin metal inside the package.

That all said I wouldn't mind having a stab at fixing it, but it might be a long shot!

There is some corrosion and at least two of the pins are missing due to the corrosion. I was hoping there is a replacement chip our there. I'll send you a pm to see if your still interested in attempting the repair.

Is the Gondomania VIDEO board working fine paired with The Real Ghostbusters CPU board?

Did you buy this Gondomania for trying to convert it to The Real Ghostbusters or as donor board to take the customs from?

I bought the Gondomania as a donor board, although it was tested and working. When I got the board i noticed the bottom board was identical to th GB with the few exceptions noted in the video. I was just wondering if they are compatible. I still have checking to do but figured I would ask.

Try to connect the The Real Ghostbusters CPU board with the Gondomania VIDEO board and check if VCC and GND don't get shorted due different pinout of the connectors
But if the CPU board is the same between the two games I'd say it's compatible although the differences you noted could matter.Anyway, after checking what I early said try to transfer all the EPROM devices from the faulty VIDEO board to the good one.
