I was watching RoboCop 2 and in the arcade scene Robo puts a dirty cop through the crt glass of a Data East Bad Dudes cab. Through the arcade the majority of games are all Data East due to them publishing the RoboCop games but what puzzles me and I've never seen it before but has anyone else seen this control panel for the Real Ghostbusters? I'm only familiar with the 3 player Battle Toads layout or 2 player Double Dragon Layout. That handle cp is interesting.

That looks like all the dedicated cabs I've seen . You also see it as a 2 player conversion - not sure if it's a rom swap or dip switch setting .
Okay - just clicked on the driving game thumbnail - didn't see that . I was going off the center pick I saw if the 3 player

There are a few games in that scene where the marquee does not match the game

The cabinet you're referring to looks like a hybrid between a Bad Dudes/Midnight Resistance (top part) and a Speed Buggy (bottom part).

The control looks like the one from Lock On but not quite.

My guess it was a made up cabinet that looked different from the others to fit the scene.

one thing i never understood about older movies with arcade games in the background, specifically real/"branded" arcade games (i.e. ... not a game labeled "ARCADE" on the marquee with a generic spaceship on the side) ...

why would you swap all the parts around?? this seems to be a semi-common thing, but wouldn't it make more work to do this? was it intentional?

Hmmmmm.

A long time ago, before the Ghostbusters movie, there was a TV show - Ghostbusters. It was a kids show which ran on Saturday mornings (anyone remember cartoon day?) with live action. The characters were Spencer, Tracy, and Kong (one was a gorilla).

Then the movie came out, and there was confusion. I think the "real" got hung after that.

Or I could remember this wrong. Somewhere, I have a cloisonne pin that I picked up I think at the Austin NASFIC back in 1986 with that on it. Where I have it? No idea - maybe I got rid of it with a bunch of other stuff.

Ghostbusters movie came out in 1986. The TV show was called The Ghost Busters in 1975 or 1976.

There's a Looping cab in the background. Most interesting game in there.

At least now there's a reason to actually talk about Robocop 2.

Its actually pretty interesting reading up on the original movie. They started shooting without having the name cleared, and were shooting alternate takes of things using the name Ghostbreakers and Ghost Stoppers. Ivan Reitman the director wasn't happy because that was eating up extra time. The scene where the crowd starts chanting "Ghostbusters" was shot and he told the studio they better figure it out because he only shot it the one way. So the producers at the original show got payed handsomely for the title, sequel, and merchandising. It also spawned a cartoon version of the original tv show to cash in on the branding. When the Peter Venkman Ghostbusters came along for cartoons they had to call it The Real Ghostbusters to differentiate. Funny thing is, they still had to pay the original producers to use that name.

I guess it's a niche film but look up how they created the films. In a time with limited special effects the stop motion puppeteers and engineers for backgrounds and stunts get no credit with how well they did with so little.

That's pretty cool. The tech in the movie is great, of course. But the story and characters are a few notches down from the first movie.
