The question i get asked the most about GO7 chassis

Why did my brand new width coil break/quit adjusting?

For those of you that have bought these chassis from me or done the Bob Roberts Deluxe kit yourself, you may have noticed something different with the width coils. It doesn't seem to matter who you buy these coils from, they all look the same and have the same common problem. The ferrite core in these comes set in a middle of the road location and trying to move the core can sometimes be difficult and you may even break it after just a few turns.

Try this next time: before you install the new coil, thread it out from the bottom, coat the core with some anti-seize compound and put it back in the way you took it out. Turn it slow and when it starts to bind STOP! At this point, heat it up with a heat gun and run the core up and down a couple times while its hot. If you don't have a heat gun, install the whole coil assembly and it and leave it alone until you install the chassis and let the monitor burn for a couple hours. Once it's good and warm, then twist on it all you want. You will have a very slim chance of getting any major adjustment out of these otherwise, the plastic shell is way too tight on the core.

i know this belongs in the monitor section and if the mod's wanna move it, go ahead. I posted it here just cuz i figured more people would see it.

This method works many times with old frozen coils too. Desolder the old coil and try threading the core out from the bottom(not the top) If it comes out, put a dab of compound on the core, thread it back in, warm it up and you may find that you were able to save your old coil.

Nice tip. If the coil is already installed, will heating it up with a heat gun generally get it loose enough to adjust or have you found that the anti-seize is pretty much a requirement?

Good question Shanman, you can do it with a heat gun once installed but space is kinda limited and you really run the risk of heating it up too much and actually melting/shrinking the case. The anti-seize holds up to the heat and helps keep things loose forever.

Do you have a preferred anti-seize compound to use? The ones I'm used to using have metal in the paste.
