The post-CAX "Now I want a ____" thread

Nice...I'm stoked you found this old thread.

So here we are, 5 years later and I still don't have an Aztarac. The one at this year's CAX died half way through Saturday. I'd still love to get one some day...amazing.

The game of the show this year though.......

.....was....

......

CHICKEN SHIFT!!!!

Its on the want list now.

Chicken Shift is my new 720 (happy 720 day BTW). My wife is sick of hearing about it.

Well I seem to have gotten my girlfriend addicted to VirtualOn. Even worse when I told her about 15 years ago I passed up a beautiful complete shopped set for $300 when the local Tilt was moving locations. It took me years to get over that in hindsight and that dread crept back in just a little during CAX.

I have nowhere near the space for it at present but the fire is burning to get one again. I had a 25 minute consecutive undefeated streak on Saturday morning, which delayed me in meeting up with a vendor and dropping some stuff off. My record for the weekend was 19 consecutive challenge victories. Awesome to talk with other attendees about VirtualOn strategy and memories. Also really cool to introduce new players to the game and basics like boost cancel for dodging and jump cancels to reacquire auto lock. The machine held up like a champ too, with only the right stick on seat two beginning to loosen up a little by Sunday afternoon after having attendees pound on it all weekend. A pure Japanese VOOT was a beautiful thing to see.

VOOT was my game back in high school and I was super stoked to have played it again at CAX. Huge thanks to whoever brought it to the show!

Robotron is still at the top of the list, just like it was 5 years ago. I have been mostly buying pins since then, but I am also going back to the classics a bit. I wanted to buy a Sinistar at the show his year, but I had to be responsible and save the money to repair a busted pipe. It sucks being a grown up sometimes. Lol

I am still on the fence on the P3. I really like the potential as a dev platform, but the current game on its own can't compare to games like Metallica for me right now. I really need to find a way to play it more before they are in production.

I wasn't there this year, but I assume these two games were at CAX:

The Act
I think it would be fun to own this game, at least for a little while. Probably not a long term keeper.

Kingpin
The only pinball I hope that eventually gets remade.

a game i played over 30 yrs ago

so I go over to the cax cabaret section. see a little game called blueprint. start playing it and it all comes back to me. haven't played it in over 30 yrs. cool little game. I want one!

the creature trying to grab the girl on top it would never be made these days!

My list was pretty much the same as last year and funny enough...I really just need Kalan to back a truck up to my house, since they were all games he brought. But post show I'd love to have -

Circus Charlie
Nibbler
Pooyan
Frogger

And then non-Kalan game ;-) haha

Arkanoid
Astro City/Candy Cab

Love Frogger - especially with a high score save kit.

Also, I played Atari's Rebound throughout the day on Sat. So much fun. I'm guessing it came out after Pong back in the mid 70's...Anyone know where I can find one of those?

Rebound came out in 1974. Really great early game. Hard to come by and I'm not selling mine. FWIW, a few more people have one than VAPS indicates. Good luck!

Glad you enjoyed it! The blueprint cabaret hasn't been working in about 2 yrs and I was determined to have it up and running this year. I was stoked to see people playing it. It became a favorite game of mine as I used to play it in the arcade while waiting for a spot to open up on a Joust or Tron machine. There weren't many cabarets made, somewhere in the 300-400 range I believe.

thanks for sharing that little gem. it was really cool. dont see many of those. pretty rare and obscure and playable too.

Aztarac - already on the want list, more so now.

Cosmic Chasm - I had an iPad at CAX and had added CC to my VAPS want list by lunch on Saturday.

Aztarac huh? hmmm.... maybe keep in contact with me.

Cosmic Chasm wasn't at CAX this year. Unless you played it on some MAME or other multi-game? It is a great game though.

Well... It might... Might, I say... Have something to do with the fact that the post you quoted Greg from was from 07-21-2010, 11:14 AM... :D

There's my "doh" moment for the day. What a goof I am not to notice that.
