good lord, why did no one mention this?!

on xbox live today, includes:

Real pinball for your Xbox 360! The all-time greatest pinball tables from Williams®, Bally®, Stern Pinball™, and Gottlieb® are now together in one game. Every flipper, bumper, sound effect, and display pixel has been painstakingly emulated in astonishing detail. The four table launch collection includes Tales of the Arabian Nights®, Ripley's Believe It or Not®, Theatre of Magic®, and Black Hole™. Over the next few years, downloadable classics like Monster Bash®, Medieval Madness®, Creature from the Black Lagoon®, Funhouse®, Attack from Mars®, Black Knight®, Space Shuttle®, Pin•Bot®, Circus Voltaire®, Big Shot®, (and many others!) will be added along with online tournaments and additional modes to challenge yourself and compete against your friends. The Pinball Arcade is the most realistic and comprehensive pinball game ever created. Please support us in our efforts to preserve these tables and join the indelible part of Americana that is pinball!

Interesting... I just happen to have 800 points sitting on my XBLA account right now.

i played the heck out of that on the on the phone.
will definitely do the xbox stuff but maybe wait until they drop the next set of tables, too.

payed for it on wife's iphone, my droid, and now xbox? that's getting a little excessive compared to the 20 bucks for williams classics on xbox at gamestop......

the facebook entry by pinball arcade says april 4 is the release date for xbox?

Damn....if this is any good we'll have 2 solid pinball games on xbla. With PinballFX2 and this, I might as well save my money for an actual table.

Seriously though I hope this is good. Competition in this space will make both games better.

At MGC had dinner with a guy who's kid just got picked up for $$$ sponsorship by the Zen folks. The kid is on the real pinball circuit so there must be some lucritive money still in the pinball arena, even virtualized.

I still think that zen and farsights efforts are probably going to be the future of pinball unless the grass roots pinball folks can figure out how to make it a widespread physical product phenom again. otherwise it'll just be a living room TV future in store.....

While I can't see the popularity of these simulators bringing about a new golden age of actual pinball (10 bucks for 4 tables vs 7 grand for a Stern) it may expand the physical pinball market by making new pins in the wild more appealing for players. At the very least this could lead to a modest expansion of the physical pin market, as games get more attention in resort/family fun places. Again, I don't expect a new pinball arcade in my local mall, but I could see a Dave and Busters picking up an extra 1 or 2 for a location. We're all realistic about the future of the Pinball industry, but even a slight uptick in sales might inspire Stern (and perhaps others) to produce pins going forward...and thats great for everyone.

Cheers,
Bob

the sentiment about Stern's ability to adapt to the new market beyond existing collectors wasn't optimistic from the talk I heard at MGC.

too bad zen pinball and all its offshoots are awful. badly designed tables + terrible physics. I'll take PHOF over them any day of the week

I agree that some of those early zen tables are almost unplayable but they have improved a great deal over the years IMO. The latest Marvel tables and Epic quest for xbla have pretty good flow and nice gameplay. I've downloaded pretty much all of them, and there are definitely a few stinkers, but as the library grows so does the list of good titles.

Again..just my opinion.
