The official "What games were missing at CAX 2010?" thread.

Honestly, I am shocked that an EDOT isn't at every show. It just seems like the type of rare arcade gaming experience that should and could be at a show of this caliber. I get that they're big and hard to move, but really, I think CAX is about seeing and playing games that most people don't have access to. You should see if the Hawaii guy would donate one in exchange for a lifetime of free admission to the show.

If I owned an edot, I would never move it. way too fragile a cabinet..

Now if you want to buy one and donate it to the show, Ken & TJ can scare up the manpower to move it every year...

One of the things I like about the show is the lineup changes a bit every year. Means that there's always something "new" there that not everyone has played.

I am finally back into the swing of things with the show. I took 2.5 years off but now finally ready to put in my 110%.

Games I normally bring:

Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting
Williams Multigame (clay's kit)
Space Harrier upright
Burgertime (Midway)
Time Pilot
Sinistar
Super Puzzle Fighter II
Uo Poko

The others I used to bring have been sold. The last two years I have acquired a few different games that I will bring:

Arabian (perpetually for sale)
Kickman
108 in 1 Neo Geo
Mortal Kombat (dedicated)
Food Fight (if the others don't show)

Backup fodder if needed:
Tron
Centipede
Defender
Donkey Kong
Star Wars
Asteroids

Of the 6 or so years I have brought my games, EVERY time I pulled Galaxian out to take it, it has broken. The first year, the monitor neck snapped, second year, monitor bezel glass shattered. After that, I refused to move it out of the basement. Also, my Pole Position will never move from its spot in the basement until I ever have to move. I am on my 4th one!

Totally forgot about that as a consideration. But DLP was moving games around all day and all night and all day again. Two more games moved one way and two moved the other way...no big deal right?

Many times thats easier said than done! LOL! But I do really try my hardest to get all the machines into their cool looking rows.... like the Williams row, Nintendo row, etc, etc. We do allocate space in the hopes that other machines show up but towards the end of the night on Friday things start filling up and we have no choice but to just find an open space and stick it in. Plus, my arms get tired from moving machines all day! LOL!! I guess ya get to a point where ya just have to say "oh well" and move on to the next area that needs to be set up. If all the machines were there in the morning, then we'd be able to do it 100%

I really liked the setup this year. You guys did a great job.

Seriously??? NO Edot?

I mean, C'mon. California is the HOME of "Discs of Tron" machines. It seems like EVERY TIME one is mentioned or referenced on here, they are ALL located in the state of California. It would seem to me that there would be as many of those show up as "Star Wars" machines to the CAX show.

Not too long ago, it was WELL DOCUMENTED that a guy on here had one practically GIVEN to him by a disgruntled wife (along with a Journey upright -the poor sap's "favorite" game). And this was in California. If I recall correctly, he also had photos of a REGULAR Tron and a Robotron posted to PROVE that his score was legit. He could have brought those games, too. The least that guy could have done would be to bring that beautiful Discs of Tron machine to the show for all to enjoy!

Personally, I NEVER saw a "Discs of Tron" on location back when they were new. My guess is that most operators saw such good revenue from the "regular" Tron machine, that they did not see any reason to buy another "more different" Tron game that only has one screen/level instead of "Four". The way people talk about DOT on here, you would expect that there would be AT LEAST a couple of them at EVERY CAX event...

there was a DOT at cax 2010. It just stopped working. In fact, I think there is usually a DOT at cax. What is not common is an EDOT. I totally understand why no one wants to move one of those.

Really? It seems like I heard something about that. Hmmmm. To bad someone can't post the link to the thread since probably hardly anyone heard about that.....

I have an EDOT. But the thought of the big glass artwork getting broken while moving it on a trip to CAX is reason enough not to risk bringing it. If any of the glass broke on it, I'd be pissed. But I don't have a way to transport it, or any of my games, there anyway. And I'm not going to pay get a rental truck.

I haven't been to CAX yet. But if I go next year I'd like to bring Kyros, Outfoxies, and Boogie Wings (The Great Ragtime Show). They are not in dedicated cabs, just the pcbs and marquees (except no marquee for Outfoxies). If anyone could bring some generic JAMMA cabs to CAX to let me put these boards in them for everyone to play, that would be awesome. I'd like to bring something not many people have played.

Were there any rotary-stick games this year like Ikari Warriors or Midnight Resistance?

And at CAX do they have a map/guide showing the row or area where specific games can be found? Those of you that have been to CAX, would something like this help people find a game they want to play more easily; or not really?

Yeah, after you get your map- the easter bunny blows you and then Santa shows up so you can get your X-mas list in early.

"And at CAX do they have a map/guide showing the row or area where specific games can be found? "

The games are not actually set in their places until they arrive on the Friday of the show. That doesn't leave time to make a map and print it to give folks. Plus although there are a lot of games there it's not that huge a space where you can't simply walk around and find games without a map.

So did the easter bunny do a good "job"? And I thought Santa was just an urban legend!

Either way, it looks like I'll have to check out CAX next year to get a piece o' the action!

Was disappointed not to see the kickman or mr. do! again this year. The kickman at last year's show inspired me to buy one. I was also really disappointed that there weren't all the linked games that were at last year's show.

I was really happy to see cyberball there. Seemed to be getting some love every time I walked by it.

maybe they'll be a williams 1942 next year if there wasnt this year ?

Hilarious.

Seriously though, no maps are needed. A couple walkthroughs of the floor and you remember where everything is. Its not that huge...

(thats what she said, right?)
