The official "What games were missing at CAX 2010?" thread.

Kinda like the 5 Star Wars...or were there more? I know the game is popular but there could be other games brought to fill those spaces.... Last year or year before that was the same story. How many Star Wars machines does the show need?

well, it comes down to what people own, what they can bring, what they want to bring. I think you find most collectors collect the same games. So it can be hard to get unique games to cax. Jonathan works very hard to try to keep the duplicates down. But sometimes people bring games they hope to sell..

Since you brought up star wars, Frank took 2 of his spare cockpits to last years show to sell (He sold both of them). This year Frank took his personal cockpit in fantastic shape.. There were 4 uprights. I think 2 were for sale. Did not notice if any were running ESB. But one thing for sure, they were all getting played.

I would have liked to play some Excitebike, Gradius and Return of the Jedi.

That Time pilot was a real pain to try to play. T&F and HS had button issues as well. So even though they were there they were not enjoyable.

470+ games in one hall is an amazing sight!!! However, I couldn't help to notice several games that were missing that I would of loved to see. First of all, what?

I wasn't there (not pleased about that), but I heard that Pete Ashdown and the Taito collection didn't make it this year. Major bummer, but somewhat understandable as he has to bring the games from Utah. Now that's dedication! So no Qix, Electric Yo-Yo, Kram and a bunch of other Taitio classics. Not to mention the non-Taito game he usually brings: Demon.

Of course, I would have liked to have seen Bouncer or the laser version of Road Blaster.

Has one turned up somewhere? When they went bankrupt of the original 50 protos there were supposedly 10 that were taken by employees and the rest smashed (NOOOO!), but last I heard none of them have been found. Now that's a game I'd LOOOOVE to try, well that, Marble Madness II and NY Warriors if it exists!

I think Road Blaster can be played via DAPHNE, so you can at least see what it is.

Yeah and the ROMs for Bouncer are a holy grail for MAME programmers, along with Crazy Otto and Marble Madness II, at least Turbo Sub has been dumped which was the only other game made by the company which made Bouncer.

I think Red Baron was the only Atari vector missing. I'm not even that big a fan, but it would've been cool to have them all there.

On a side note, I'd never played an open face Battlezone before. It really threw me off. I can usually hit around 200K, but I couldn't break 40K on that machine.

Did you check out the DoDonPachi-DOJ that was in the Sega Swing cabinet next to the entrance? I WANT that PCB!

Scramble
Jungle Hunt
Pot of Gold (okay I'm dreaming)
Jack The Giantkiller (maybe next year I'll bring mine if I ever pick it up from AG)
Space Fury
Berzerk

Honestly, I am shocked that an EDOT isn't at every show. It just seems like the type of rare arcade gaming experience that should and could be at a show of this caliber. I get that they're big and hard to move, but really, I think CAX is about seeing and playing games that most people don't have access to. You should see if the Hawaii guy would donate one in exchange for a lifetime of free admission to the show.

Yeah, I saw that. That's my favorite Shmup. I wanted to play but the kids loved it. They would play endlessly. It never got a rest as far as I could tell.

pretty sure there are enough collectors that own one in the area. The problem is convincing them to bring it. The thing is a monster that requires a few people to move. Not an issue getting help to unload or load at the show but you also need a crew at your home to load and unload it.
