The official "Found on the sidewalk / trash / landfill"-thread

And...um...no. I did not ask the complexes groundskeeper if I could take something out of the dump heap. As far as I am concerned, I helped them by removing a large piece of waste that they don't have to deal with now.

ÄÄHHMM....YES, I think the same and you preserved an important piece....well done.

Nice overall story, exactly what I was looking for in that thread. :)

All the machine needed was a new monitor because the neck was shattered. I swapped in a spare monitor I had and it played perfectly!

I'm going to have to notify groundskeeper Willie of this intrusion.

Side note Mr Drewster why is this perfectly playing Joust not listed in your VAPS?

Anything within 10 feet of a dumpster is fair game. That's an un-written rule of dumpster-diving.

As it stands, half of my collection was "free"(as in, no monetary cost to acquire). Paddle battle, Lunar Lander were given to me back in '84. Pole Position, which I got a little over a month ago, was a freebie from the same people.

I'm always on the lookout for freebies.... more-so now, than ever. My wife has given me semi-permission to be on the lookout for cheap/free cabinets that I can repair, and possibly sell. I've told her that it isn't likely to be easy, and probably will be time consuming. But Hell, it's an idea.

I still sit here and think, if I hadn't gone to the Dollar Store that day, this Pole Position would likely have been trashed. Damned shame about the others they had.

I've never picked up a game free, but I have had to get a dumpster to clear out a property I purchased for my wife's business. I was cleaning it out daily and pretty much tossing shit in the dumpster on a daily basis. One night while I was going out back I saw a human pop up from the dumpster. At the time I was reaching for my piece thinking there was going to be trouble, but he introduced himself as a junker just doing diving for stuff he could recycle. He also explained that the noise was because after picking thru the Trash him and his friends were compacting what was still there so I could fit more stuff in. If you ever had to pay for a dumpster it made sense since I didn't have to have it emptied multiple times. I never had an issue over the course of my cleanup since these dudes not only made a living off of the recycling, but since they sorted every day they wound up saving me about $800 in trash removal costs.

Lets see... Mine were all back when I was living in Anchorage. I got a Raiden Fighters Jet boardset and every other part out of the HS-5 cab it was installed in (couldn't take the cab itself for lack of a vehicle though) when one iteration of the Dimond Center mall arcade closed back in HS. Also grabbed a Golly Ghost, a Clean Sweep crane game, and one or two others from behind the Chuck E Cheese location up there. Saw some Skee-Ball and air hockey setups there from time to time too but never had room.

I know there is a benefit to you for them taking stuff, but things will be different if they get hurt and decide to sue you. You should always have signage up saying no dumpster diving.

I see it that way....I have been told in the USA you can sue people for every shit for millions but this goes to far....
Oh, people will try it, don't get me wrong. I actually had to fire someone for leaving three hours early with no reason. Her excuse at unemployment court was that I didn't see her when I showed up because she was filing paperwork in the dark. The judge didn't even try to keep a straight face.

I think that's your best bet honestly. I remember someone trying to restore one of these because it was his "grail" game and he said it was next to impossible to find parts

It's not TOO hard to find parts for this game, just gotta look in the back of buildings...:D

I laugh at you guys and was thinking of this tread this past weekend...

Setting the stage, it is Saturday morning and we are having trash pickup due to the holiday last week. Our trash cans are out at the base of the driveway. My truck is parked in the driveway (bed towards the road) down near the mouth of the driveway because I was moving stuff in and out of the driveway.

I wheel around a brand new CNC cut Taito cabinet for a local collector that I offered to drop off since he didn't have access to a vehicle to pick it up. The cabinet is assembled, complete, T-Molding, etc... placed it right behind my truck to load it.

I wheel the dolly around back to the basement, take the dog out, get the kids ready to go, and come out to load the truck..... And I find a guy in a red ford backing up to load the cabinet. I ask him what the H@LL he though he was doing, and he said he was saving the cabinet from the trash, and pointed at the trash cans by the road. I told him is wasn't trash, and he turned red and took off. Got the plate # before he left.

So my question is, which KLOVer is it?

We really need that cabinet for our museum and we have contacted the authorities.
