The official "Found on the sidewalk / trash / landfill"-thread

Whats going on with the guy....does he talk about the find of the rare vector game in an abondened bar in the desert?

By the way, I did ask the wife of the owner, they have some horses there in a small area and I called over if I can have that. She replied, "no, sorry I think my husband needs the pallets" and I said "no, I mean that bike", she "what bike, is there a bicycle"? Me: "No, that plastic fake-motocyle, the rest of an arcade-machine". Her reply (meanwhile she went over to us "Oh this, it should be in the landfill since last week and I thought it went..., we are not permitted to store trash here, so if you want to save it you must take it now because as soon as my son is back the trash will be cleared. I dont want to have stress with the landlord again".

The devil is in the details. I am glad you did the right thing. Too bad someone killed it. Probably not many survived.

My Lucky n Wild was free and next to a dumpster when I got it. It needed the monitor rebuilt.

It's one of my kids' most favorite games.

Well, maybe direct your message to John. In both threads john entered the threads and made a joke about it at my expense. I did not do that. I responded in kind. He then brought up sundance in this thread, I responded in kind. Actually in the first thread, someone else made a joke about John at johns expense and he took it. but then he used that to make a joke at me. Yes, it's all childish. Should I be above it, probably. But I am not the one who is starting it. I would say it's even more childish that John keeps at it.

Yes, i am not in the op shoes, I posted I do not know all the facts. I was not going to comment in this thread, but John dragged me into it. But based on just the photos, in the case of the bike, short of getting approval to take it, I would say it was stealing. It was not in a junk pile unless someone told you that was a junk pile. I am not trying to pass my morals on to everyone. But It just amazing what others do to get things. It's not that hard to do the right thing. If. It was truly junk, the guy probably would have given it to him. Maybe even given him the rest of the game. The last game I got for free, the cab was out without the control panel. It had free on it, but I still asked before I took it. They said I could also have the control panel that was on their porch. So doing the right thing paid off.

Who said what first is irrelevant because, quite honestly, the public pissing war that the pair of you have going on is now dragging down otherwise-interesting threads. One of you will say something, the other will rise to the bait, and the cycle perpetuates.

As neither one of you seems to be able to exercise enough self-control to disregard the other, why not just put each other on mutual ignore in your user options and call it done? You don't have to see what he says, he doesn't have to see what you say, and the rest of us can hopefully get back to not having this soap opera injected into things we might actually be interested in reading about.

Amen . Enough is enough .

Yeah I totally did bait Bill with my paging Bill remark. It was immature of me. Bill, I do admire your passion for the games. I'm not sure why you take my situation so personally. It was a long time ago and it's over. It's incredibly unlikely to recur in anything similar to that situation. I will stop baiting you. You can go ahead with telling anyone you feel about your opinion of me. It doesn't matter. Many of these situations simply are not black and white. If someone isn't directly involved in a situation then it's likely they don't have all the facts to make a judgement. And holding grudges for years about something they are not even directly involved with doesn't help anything. Anyway, my apologies for poking at you. As I said, it was an immature response.

Good to hear.

Congrats. Should make a great prop.

I would agree, but I am not the one who brings it up and directs it at the other. When I respond to a thread, it's on point. I don't follow what John posts, I respond only when it's in a thread that I am reading and when it's directed at me.

Again, look at the last two threads, I did not bring it up, John did. Johns posts were not related to the thread so it seems to me the problem was with John. Is that not right?

Agreed. Getting old.

I would agree it's all in the details. In the sundance there are several facts that make it quite clear what happened. It's not opinion, it's facts based on what you have said you did. What happened after you took it is opinion. If you stop trying to justify the action and not deal with the facts, then I would not have a problem with it. Hopefully this is the last post about it.

You are both equally-culpable for this mess, and it needs to stop. My position in this regard has been made absolutely clear, and it's not going to change.

Haven't had any cool "finds" like that. Just some free CL pickups.

I'm new here so my opinion matters not, but i'd agree that horse is dead. It leaking into other threads isn't cool for the OPs.

You guys...seriously!!! Enough with the Sundance bullshit.

I am going to put this thread back on track with a game I picked up earlier this year from an apartment complex dump heap. Also, another funny fact, this was the very last game that 1998 Mountaineer hauled until it blew.

This Joust is currently awaiting a full restore and will have a permanent place in the lineup eventually.

I count free pick-ups too.....as everything is interesting.
I would'nt come into the Sundace-discussion, especially if you are new.
What I have to say is that I also have some haters like Tyrem on DLF or TBilly on UKVAC who high-jack really every thread I start or corrupt every posting I do. Members told me "ignore it" but after some time its not possible anymore.
For me forums-moderation is useless because here, where it would be needed it fails.
The moderators should read back who always starts the fight and should give him a warning.
It is natural and common that you defend yourself if you get attacked repeatingly. If the attacker does not get warned he sees no reason to stop his behaviour and will go on, especially if that became a personal vendeta meanwhile.
We are no tired to read the fights (action and reaction), we are tired to read the first strike already...so ignoring the aggressor is not enough as he will make comments over and over again. And those are already annoying to me.
Also, there are always members who look for fights because they have problems with there women, cant find a job or dont get the games they want and see others find them.
Those members will participate on the provocation which increases the dynamics.
So my conclusion is not just to say both of you are guilty (because its the easiest way) but to find out who repeatingly provokes, and usually that people are troublemakers in other threads/ on other members....thats are my 2 cents.

Anyways....back to the topic, it was always my dream to find an arcade-machine on the sidewalk or the trash...which is very unrealistic in Austria.
So this might be the one find to fullfil that wish.

AHHH...I know very good about this machine, I postet that picture on Facebook as it was so inspiring for me.
Nice to get to know the man who saved it.

Tell me more about the story behind it (but please, I dont care if you asked the owner of the machine XD

First priority is to save this from being dumped...and whats in the trash usually ends in the landfill.

I've gotten a few games for free but this is the best one. The guy was going to dump it because it didn't work, the only thing wrong with it is it needed a new power supply.

I woke up early one morning because my phone was buzzing. An old family friend had been texting me trying to tell me that there was an old arcade game in the dumpster at his apartment. At first I ignored him because I had also been fairly hungover so I was in no mood. But then I figured what the hell. So I got his address and grabbed a very large cup of coffee and some Advil and hit the road. I was fully expecting to find some poker machine or nasty generic JAMMA cabinet, so it was a pleasant surprise to find that it was a machine that was very high on my want list. I sold my first Joust a couple years ago and sorely regretted selling it ever since, so all this worked out very well. All the machine needed was a new monitor because the neck was shattered. I swapped in a spare monitor I had and it played perfectly!

And...um...no. I did not ask the complexes groundskeeper if I could take something out of the dump heap. As far as I am concerned, I helped them by removing a large piece of waste that they don't have to deal with now.
